Newcastle Horse Racing Tips On Saturday: Moon Over Miami To Eclipse Northumberland Rivals

13:40 Newcastle – Education Network Handicap Cl2 (3yo+ 0-105) 7f ITV

A tricky race to start the afternoon, but BENNY BENNU makes plenty of appeal after a solid fourth at Chester last time.

He drops a pound for that effort and finished only a place behind Supido, while meeting that rival on slightly better terms here.

Importantly, it was also his first run of the season, so there should be improvement to come, whereas Supido had already had the benefit of a previous outing.

Of the others, old favourite Korker catches the eye again.

He was sixth in that same Chester race and, although now winless in 27 starts, he continues to slide down the handicap and looks the type to pop up sooner rather than later.

Room Service is another to note. He was runner-up in the Group 3 Criterion Stakes at York on this card last season and returns from a 266-day absence for his handicap debut.

🥇 BENNY BENNU
🥈 Korker
🥉 Room Service

14:10 Newcastle – JenningsBet Chipchase Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 (3yo+) 6f ITV

Another difficult contest to unravel.

Marvelman deserves respect, having won his only start on the all-weather at Kempton. He drops in grade and has also shown he can go well fresh.

Nobel Champion, winner of the 2025 Jersey Stakes, lines up as well, but he has struggled to rediscover that form.

The same applies to last season’s Sandy Lane winner Symbol Of Honour, who remains without a victory since.

Wiltshire is likely to attract support given his excellent all-weather record, but he is still 0-4 at Listed level or above.

That makes DILIGENT HARRY the one to side with.

He won this race 12 months ago from stall three and, although drawn in 10 this time, he returns to the surface that clearly brings out the best in him.

His two turf runs this season have been perfectly respectable, despite a record of 0-20 on grass.

Back on the all-weather, where his record stands at 10 wins from 18 starts, conditions look ideal once again for the Clive Cox-trained runner, with Saffie Osborne back in the saddle.

🥇 DILIGENT HARRY
🥈 Marvelman
🥉 Ferrous

14:40 Newcastle – JenningsBet Festival Northumberland Vase Handicap Cl2 (3yo+) 2m½f ITV

Another fiercely competitive handicap.

Last year’s winner Savrola and the 2024 scorer Alphonse Le Grande both return, although they are now 5lb and 6lb higher respectively.

Artisan Dancer finished 12th in the race last year but has an outstanding all-weather record, with 23 top-three finishes from 34 starts.

However, this may come down to the recent Chester winners Shrimp Shady and BELIEVEITANDUCAN.

Shrimp Shady arrives after a 50-day break following his Chester success, while Believeitanducan appears to have even more improvement to come after back-to-back wins at Ascot and Chester.

Alan King’s runner has been raised 5lb for his latest success, but that convincing three-and-a-quarter-length victory suggested he still has plenty in hand.

The booking of William Buick only strengthens the case.

🥇 BELIEVEITANDUCAN
🥈 Shrimp Shady
🥉 Alphonse Le Grande

15:15 Newcastle – JenningsBet Northumberland Plate Handicap Cl2 (GBBPlus) 2m½f ITV

The Northumberland Plate trends make interesting reading.

Twenty of the last 24 winners were drawn 14 or lower, while 18 of the last 24 were aged six or younger.

In addition, 23 of the last 24 winners had finished fifth or better on their previous start.

Last year’s winner Spirit Mixer (watch below) returns from a mark 6lb higher, while Team Player’s excellent fifth in the Chester Cup puts him firmly in the picture.

Dancing In Paris, runner-up 12 months ago, is another with claims, while course winner Circus Of Rome is likely to head the betting.

Oh, and favourites have a respectable record in the race, winning six of the last 24 renewals.

Two Against The Field In The Northumberland Plate

But the pair that appeal most are RIDE THE THUNDER and MOON OVER MIAMI.

Ride The Thunder has yet to tackle this trip, but the extra distance could easily unlock further improvement after his recent efforts behind Valiancy over 1m6f.

Draw seven also looks ideal given the early run before the bend.

With only eight starts under his belt, there could still be plenty more to come.

Moon Over Miami is less favourably drawn in stall 19, but the return to this trip from a mark of 90 is particularly interesting, especially as he has won from this rating before.

His latest fourth at Goodwood has worked out well, with fifth-placed Too Soon winning at Epsom since.

He is also 12lb better off with Team Player after their meeting on soft ground at Musselburgh in April.

So it may pay to side with Thunder to strike or Moon to shine brightest.

🥇 MOON OVER MIAMI (e/w)
🥈 RIDE THE THUNDER
🥉 Team Player

15:45 Newcastle – JenningsBet Over 200 Shops Nationwide Handicap Cl2 (3yo+ 0-105) 6f ITV

Fivethousandtoone won this race last year and returns just 3lb higher.

Last year’s runner-up POCKLINGTON is also back and competes from a mark 6lb above the one he carried 12 months ago.

Pocklington clearly enjoys Newcastle, with course figures of 1-1-2-2-2-7, and he should be spot on after only two runs this season and a recent wind operation.

Power Fizz is another obvious contender for the in-form William Haggas yard after an easy course-and-distance victory last time. However, he is now 7lb higher and steps up in class.

Tuco Salamanca and Al Najashi also boast strong all-weather records.

The one that looks overpriced, though, is ANNAF.

He produced an excellent effort to finish second in the Group 3 Chipchase Stakes here last year and now competes from a mark of 99. Remarkably, his last run from a rating in the 90s came back in 2022.

His all-weather record is particularly strong too, with 12 top-three finishes from 14 starts, including five victories. A return to Newcastle could easily spark a revival.

🥇 POCKLINGTON
🥈 ANNAF
🥉 Power Fizz

York Horse Racing Tips On Saturday: Never So Brave To Show Criterion Courage

13:55 York – Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Mile Handicap Cl3 (3yo+ 0-90) 1m ITV

Golden Strike is the only last-time-out winner in the field and, with just a 3lb rise to contend with, he is sure to have plenty of supporters.

William Haggas won this race last year and is represented by Zennor Storm, who could improve after being gelded.

A horse that did us a favour last season Darkness also enters calculations from a workable mark. But I just wonder if he needs to come down a tad more in the handicap.

While Oisin Murphy’s booking for Wild Nature catches the eye despite his 0-8 turf record.

The one that stands out, though, is ANDESITE.

He ran extremely well behind the progressive Extremely Zain over course and distance last time, finishing strongly through traffic to take second.

There is a feeling that, had he won that race, the handicapper would have raised him by much more than a single pound.

The step up from seven furlongs to a mile also looks certain to suit based on the way he finished.

Plus his only career victory came here at York in May 2024, which adds to the appeal.

🥇 ANDESITE
🥈 Zennor Storm
🥉 Golden Strike

14:25 York – Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Dash Handicap Cl2 (3yo+ 0-100) 5f ITV

Fortification has enjoyed a productive season and clearly thrives at York, having recorded a win and three top-four finishes at the track this campaign.

However, he is now another 3lb higher and sits 8lb above his last winning mark.

Naana’s Shadow arrives on the back of her Epsom Dash success and will again have Oisin Murphy aboard, although she must now cope with a 7lb rise.

Rotokura Belle is the only other course-and-distance winner in the field.

In another wide-open contest, though, the vote goes to OUR CODY for Richard Hughes.

The three-year-old filly finished a respectable fourth in the Listed Scurry Stakes at Sandown behind Words Of Truth and now drops back into handicap company.

The Hughes stable also has an excellent recent strike-rate with three-year-olds at York, which only adds to her claims.

🥇 OUR CODY
🥈 Naana’s Shadow
🥉 Fortification

14:58 York – Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Criterion Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 (3yo+) 7f ITV

There was plenty of hype surrounding Saber Strike ahead of the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot.

However, the Night Of Thunder colt could finish only sixth after racing a little too freely in the early stages.

Despite the obvious ability, that effort failed to convince, and it is interesting that the William Haggas team turn him out again so quickly. He receives a handy 9lb allowance, but his short price makes little appeal.

Qirat’s shock 150-1 Sussex Stakes success last season increasingly looks an exception rather than the rule, with the colt failing to make the frame since.

That leaves NEVER SO BRAVE as the preferred option.

He is also trying to get back on track after struggling to build on his Group 1 City Of York Stakes victory last August, but there were positives in his recent fifth behind Ten Bob Tony at Epsom.

That form has already received a significant boost after Ten Bob Tony landed the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot.

A return to York could prove the ideal platform to reignite his campaign.

🥇 NEVER SO BRAVE
🥈 Saber Strike
🥉 Chicago Critic
