The Revenant sticking at same distance

Trainer Francis-Henri Graffard has revealed The Revenant will be sticking to one-mile races when resumes.

The Revenant was last seen finishing second at in October 2019 in the Group One Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, unable to chase down the -trained Of Change on that day.

Graffard's charge, who had won his previous five races before that runners-up finish, is being aimed at the big one-mile races this season, although plans have been slightly altered due to racing being shut down as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Racing in France could potentially return on May 11, subject to government approval and meeting the required safety measures, but The Revenant won't be seen in action until the autumn.

It had been suggested the five-year-old could make the step up in trip to a mile-and-half, but Graffard has dismissed this notion and insists one-mile races are the only option this year.

“I don't see any point in stepping him up in trip at the moment because he is so efficient over a mile,” he was quoted as saying by the Irish Times. “Hopefully we have more races in the autumn and we will see what we do.

“If we have a programme for a miler we will stick to a mile.”
