📝Andy Newton’s Daily Horse Racing Tips and Cheat Sheet: SUNDAY 9th August, 2026
Onto Sunday and a bit less going on today with two UK cards on the flat at Chepstow and Leicester.
While over in Ireland Downpatrick race over the sticks with a 7-race card.
Plus, there is top flat action at the Curragh, where all eyes will be on the G1 Phoenix Stakes (3:25) to see if Aidan O’Brien can win the race for an 18th time.
His main hope is the Ryan Moore-ridden Sun Goddess.
Have a top day folks! 😎

💪Andy Newton NAP Horse Racing Tip Today (SUNDAY 9th August, 2026)
1:58 Downpatrick SHODA (NAP)
Some forgiveness is needed here after a poor run at Galway last time.
But to be fair that came over a longer trip (2m6f) and didn’t seem to stay.
So back in trip here is a plus and into much calmer waters.
That run also came off around 5 months off, so can be expected to have improved for it.
JJ Slevin rides and can hopefully get this Joseph O’Brien mare back on track.
📈RESULTS: Andy Newton’s recent record speaks for itself: 732 winning best bets from his last 1412 Lucky 15 ‘Muggy Favs’ selections.

Today’s OTHER ‘Muggy Favs’ Lucky 15 Horse Racing Tips (SUNDAY 9th August, 2026)
1:45 Curragh IBELIEVEICANFLY
Diamond Necklace won this race 12 months ago so this Aidan O’Brien runner has a bit to live up to.
She’s way off that level at the moment after three average runs so far.
But having been sent off 1/3 the last day here is clearly deemed better that what she showed.
This Frankel filly was still a bit raw that day so the hood on today for the first time could be the key.
Ryan Moore, who landed the Silver Saddle at Ascot’s Shergar Cup yesterday, does the steering.
4:00 Curragh SUN GODDESS (NB)
This O’Brien filly will be trying to give the trainer a remarkable 18th Phoenix Stakes win.
Yes, Railway Stakes winner Celeron looks a huge threat to that happening.
But the pick has don little wrong in her opening four runs – yet to be out of the first two (2 wins).
Those wins also came here at the Curragh and over today’s 6f trip.
A 43 day break would have freshened her up for this and she gets a handy 3lbs off Celeron too.
I’ll take Sun Goddess to shine here.
2:24 Leicester AL WATHBA
After running second to the promising Haffner last time at Newmarket, this Godolphin runner should taking this with ease today.
The form of that maiden has been franked since too, with the third Velociraptor winning at Chester since.
Connor Plannas rides for the Charlie Appleby yard, who also boast a cracking 39% SR in the last 14 days.
2:50 Curragh: SARAHMAE
This Denis Gerard Hogan runner landed this race last year and is back to defend her crown.
Yes, she’s rated 12lbs higher this time, but connections are helping on that score with 10lb claiming rider Jared Huggan in the plate.
She heads here off a recent 5th at Cork and was only beaten 1 3/4 lengths that day to today’s likely favourite Ipanema Queen, but is much better off at the weights this time.
4:26 Chepstow: AJRAD
We’ve got another past winner of the same race back in action today – this time at Chepstow.
This Rod Millman runner took the spoils 12 months ago by 3 1/4 lengths and is back off the same mark (53).
The yard have been going great guns in recent weeks too, which adds further confidence.
As does his course form here at the Welsh track – where he’s won three times.
4:09 Leicester: CANCELLED
CD winner here the last day but is up 3lbs here – which isn’t much, but only just got home by 3/4 of a length.
This race looks slightly more competitive too.
With the Haggas entry and handicap debutant Venetian Sky one of interest against the O’Neill runner.
I think, despite looking to have an obvious chance, something with younger legs might just improve past him here.
- 2:50 Curragh: SARAHMAE
- 3:25 Curragh: BUCANERO FUERTE
- 4:26 Chepstow: AJRAD
To follow………………………..
➡️1:15 Curragh: Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore have won the last 3 runnings

➡️Trainer Tony Martin is 3-7 over hurdles at Downpatrick
➡️Andrew Kinirons has a 42% SR over hurdles at Downpatrick

Sunday 9th August, 2026
2:41 Chepstow: CRYSTAL KRAKEN (9/2)
“Crystal Kraken has been improving steadily and ran her best race yet when 2nd on handicap debut at Thirsk last time. She has plenty of speed so I’ve no worries about dropping her to the minimum trip here. Chances. “ Dylan Cunha
