A bit of a mixed bag yesterday with 2/4 of the muggys landing, but the other two running poor races.

We did at least see another nice return with the Lay Of The Day, when Sub Thirteen was unplaced.

Right, we start Arc week with a busy day in Ireland as Roscommon and Down Royal race.

While in the UK, Brighton, Hamilton and Newton Abbot go in the afternoon and Wolverhampton provide the day’s AW evening fix.

4:04 Hamilton CITY CAPTAIN

Loves it here at Hamilton, with two wins and a close second here last week.

Gets in here off the same mark (82), but in this better class race has 12lbs less in racing weight to carry.

Is also back in trip today (5f), but has shown enough speed to think it will be fine.

And with the first two pulling well clear of the rest the last day – despite not winning – that still looked a solid effort.

I’ll take City Captain to lead by example here.

1:50 Newton Abbot DEPALMA

A trappy little three-runner race here with claims for them all.

But this Skelton runner looks the sort to have more to come over fences (2 runs).

Also gets a handy 13lb pull with Limerick Leader after running 3 lengths second to that Nick Scholfield runner two starts go, so is fancied to reverse that form.

Has also since improved to win over hurdles and this longer trip could also bring out more.

2:25 Newton Abbot MATIWO

Useful hurdler for the Jane Williams yard that gets his season started in what looks a good chance for her to get some confidence back after a poor run in France last time.

That came back in April so has been freshened up since, but before that was a good 4th (of 12) in the Dovecote (G2) Novice Hurdle at Kempton.

Which is form that clearly sets the standard here.

3:15 Brighton NEWFANGLED

Took this race 12 months ago off a pound higher mark and looks primed to go well again.

Backed up with a third at Windsor the last day – beaten only 1 1/2 lengths.

We know the Brighton track suits and having won from gate 10 last season in this race, then stall 8 is fine too.

Regular rider Rob Hornby gets the leg-up.

Today’s Each Way Horse Racing Tips↔️

MONDAY 28th September, 2026

1:35 Roscommon: SONAS

The Henry De Bromhead yard are only in average form at the moment (1-28, 4%), but a chance is taken in their runner here.

Why? Well, they like this race – winning 50% of the last six.

This filly has also only had two career runs and last time took a clear leap forward with a second (of 12) at Wexford.

3:55 Roscommon: CHARLIE LUCIANO

Pulled up the last day at Kilbeggan, so this 7yold needs to bounce back from that.

But probably found things happening a bit too quick that day over 2m4f and so this return to a longer trip is the first plus.

Backed up with running 2nd over 3m2f two runs back and winning over 3m in July at Kilbeggan.

The Meade yard had a winner last week too and what also stands out is their 4-8 (50%) SR with their hurdlers here at Roscommon.

4:38: HAMILTON: VINCE L’AMOUR

An open affair here, but this Tim Easterby runner gets the call after a 6th of 20 last time at Ayr.

Dropped 2lbs for that run helps and is now actually 6lbs lower than his last win, which came at Ripon in May.

The Easterby yard also do well in this race – winning 2 of the last 3 and 3 of the last six.

5:25 DOWN ROYAL: FARO ISLAND

Today’s final e/w interest is this Ronan Whelan-ridden 4yold, who won on this card last season.

Yes, he’s back rated 11lbs higher than when winning a 1m3f handicap here 12 months ago, but won off 5lbs lower at Galway in the summer.

Seems to go okay on most ground and the longer trip could eke out a bit more (1m 5f).

Whelan also has a solid 4-12 (33%) return when riding 4+yolds at Down Royal to throw in a final positive.

5:00 Brighton: MY MATE MACKLEY

A poor Class 6 Handicap over 6f here, so that means a lot of chances.

This Adam Kirby runner has a consistent profile too – with a string of top 4 finishes in his last 11 races.

But I just wonder if the handicapper has his grip at the moment – with his two career wins coming off 46 and 47.

He’s now rated 53 and even though Taryn Langley’s claim helps (3lbs), he’ll probably still need a career-best here.

Note: Most Lay Of The Day horse racing picks will be favourites (or lower odds).
However, if some drift during the day beyond 5/1 they’ve be a NO BET.

2:25 Newton Abbot: RIDE LIKE A GIRL

“Ride Like A Girl, a bumper winner at Huntingdon in March 2025, was placed over hurdles last season. She gained a first hurdle win, also at Huntingdon in the spring and after disappointing a shade at Uttoxeter, bounced back with a good 2nd at Bangor last month. She should run her race again, and if the favourite proves vulnerable, hopefully she can pick up the pieces. ” JAMIE SNOWDEN
