In what is playing out as the ‘Straits of Hormuz Stakes’ (pardon me for making light of the disaster), the Formula One Grand Prix in Bahrain and Saudi were withdrawn not under orders, yet horseracing was undisturbed at the Dubai World Cup meeting next door in Meydan.
What’s going on? The Ferraris, Mercedes, Red Bulls would have hurtled round circuits at drone dodging speed; the international racehorses were, by comparison, sitting ducks – on good to soft going.
