Sometimes the mark of a great horse is to have a race named after them and the likes of Arkle, Silver Buck, Red Rum, Bula, Desert Orchid, Lanzarote, Game Spirit and Tingle Creek are among many such equine stars to have been so honoured. In many cases, no matter how great the horse was, this honour may last only so long before it is superceded, although some do live on in perpetuity.
