Williams holds Thorne sympathy

Trainer Noel says he has plenty of sympathy for Alexander Thorne after the jockey failed to weigh in after a win at on .

Thorne managed to steer Twin Star to victory at the Somerset circuit but was later disqualified after he went directly into the changing room after taking part in a winning interview rather than first weighing in.

Stewards were forced to take the action of disqualifying Twin Star, meaning the race win went to Robinshill.

With the Covid-19 protocols meaning the changing rooms have been moved at Taunton but the scales remaining in their former spot, Williams says he has sympathy for Thorne after the incident.

“Obviously it is an unfortunate situation,” said Williams. “I think there has to be a little bit of help for these guys. I know they are professionals and are responsible themselves for weighing in, but there are a lot of things going through their heads when they come in from a ride, good and bad.

“Particularly when they win, as happened today, they can be taken to one side for an interview and they have a lot of things going on.”
