Trainer Karl Burke has revealed that Lord Of The Lodge is definitely in the frame to run in the 2,000 Guineas, if it goes ahead.
Racing is currently on lockdown in the UK, due to the coronavirus pandemic, and Jockey Club Racecourses confirmed at the start of April that they are looking to reschedule the first four Classics of the season for later in the year.
The 2000 Guineas is part of that quartet – the 1000 Guineas, Investec Derby and Investec Oaks being the other three – but there has been no confirmation of new dates for any of the four races, as the BHA waits for government advice on the Covid-19 situation.
Despite the postponement of racing, Burke is still keeping his large stable in good condition in the hope things will get back to normal, and he has spoken about the potential race that Lord Of The Lodge could be entered into.
“Lord Of The Lodge would be a candidate for the 2,000 Guineas,” he was quoted as saying by the Racing Post. “He's in great form. He's a Dandy Man and he's not slow but there's a lot of stamina on his dam's side.”
Lord Of The Lodge won at Newcastle on his last outing, beating Amarillo Star by a length-and-three-quarters in the 6f contest, and connections are positive about what the future holds for the three-year-old.
