Palmer pleased with Powerful Breeze progress

Trainer says Powerful Breeze is recovering well from a broken rib and expects her to build on her impressive 2019 form later this year.

Powerful Breeze won twice last year, at in August and in September, before coming second in the bet365 Fillies' Mile at Newmarket in October behind Quadrilateral.

Her performances suggest there is plenty more to come, although Palmer has urged some caution as she has had to contend with a rib injury that is healing well.

He told Sporting Life: “She didn't do very much wrong last year, just being beaten a head in the Fillies' Mile and she was back in front a stride or two after the line.

“So it was particularly galling when she picked up an injury to her ribs. She's recovering well from that but she has spent a considerable amount of time in her stable. Anyone who's suffered a broken rib knows it's a long and painful recovery process.”

Palmer has a good idea of the races he will target Powerful Breeze at and is excited for what she can achieve, provided the action returns in the summer following the current suspension due to the coronavirus.

He added: “We know she will handle soft ground in the autumn, as well as fast ground in the summer. She has a lovely turn of foot and that tight, sharp nine furlongs would suit her. We hope she has trained on to continue to be a Group One filly and she's definitely done well physically over the , she has matured.

“Races like the Sun Chariot and the Matron Stakes would be options in the run-up to America. Before that we could aim for a penalty-kick in a Listed race or something but we'll see how the programme is shaping up.”
