Tregoning optimistic of Watheer’s chances

Trainer Marcus Tregoning is hopeful Watheer can make a bold charge for the Qatar Vintage Stakes at on .

Watheer, who is half-sister to Group 3 winner Songerie as well as Listed winners Souvenance, Sourire and Soft Morning, heads into the meeting at Goodwood on the back of a narrow maiden win at .

It was just the two-year-old's second start but, despite picking up the victory, a big improvement will be needed to triumph on Tuesday with a field that includes Mildenberger, Zaman and Seahenge.

Jockey Jim Crowley has been booked in for the ride and Tregoning, although yet to determine the full potential of his charge, is quietly optimistic Watheer can put in a serious challenge.

“He's obviously got the widest draw. Jim (Crowley) will have to drop in and ride for a bit of luck,” said the Whitsbury handler. “We don't know how good this horse is because I don't have the strength of two-year-olds I used to have, but he couldn't have done anything more when he won well at Chelmsford last time.

“He got a bump, but we thought he'd win that day and his work has been very good since. I just hope he's good enough to run well.”
