Definitly Red will head to the Grand National in good heart after sealing a comfortable victory at Doncaster on Saturday afternoon.
The seven-year-old was given a handicap mark of 149 in the BetBright Grimthorpe Chase and romped home by 14 lengths from The Last Samuri.
The runner-up took this contest 12 months ago before going on to finish second in the world?s greatest steeplechase, so it augurs well for Brian Ellison?s charge on Merseyside.
Wakaner was third at Town Moor, three-and-a-half lengths behind The Last Samuri, but Definitly Red was in a class of his own.
It meant back-to-back wins for the son of Definite Article after he claimed the Grade Three Rowland Meyrick Handicap Chase at Wetherby on Boxing Day last year.
Connections were delighted, with Ellison saying: “He goes for the National, he's got 10-11 which looks a nice weight. It was always the plan to go there after here, but you need a lot of luck to go well in that race.”
