Familiar winners get Galway party started

The Galway Festival was the main centrepiece of the Irish Summer. I have selected a few eye-catchers from that meeting that it could well pay to follow going forward.

Willie Mullins and Paul Townend made a winning start to the 2026 Galway Festival as market leader Witches Familiar landed the opening Novice Hurdle over two miles.
There was a new face among the stars at Ballybrit as 21-year-old Dan King stole the limelight with a brilliant Galway double. He won the top Festival prizes - the Hurdle and the Plate.
