Michael Stoute says Expert Eye is brimming with promise after the juvenile colt rocketed home to win the Vintage Stakes at Goodwood.
The two-year-old streaked away from rival Zaman to claim the Group Two contest by four-and-a-half lengths, producing an impressive jolt of acceleration to take him away from the field on day one of Glorious Goodwood.
Expert Eye was immediately made the favourite by some bookmakers for next year’s 2,000 Guineas in the wake of the second win of his career and Stoute admits he is a great prospect.
“I’m excited, he’s brimful of promise, put it that way,” he told the Racing Post.
“It’s much too early to tell if he’s a Guineas horse, but he ticks a lot of the boxes as he’s a well-balanced, well-made horse with a good mind and he’s got a lot of pace.
“I don’t know exactly where he goes now but it’ll be ambitious. I’d like to go the next step before talking about Classics. He’s very mature and strong, and will certainly get a mile.”
Teddy Grimthorpe, representing Expert Eye’s owner Khalid Abdullah, indicated that his next outing could come in the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster before he rounds of the season at Newmarket.
