Ben Morgan’s Saturday tips – Newmarket & York – James Owen outsider to set sail in Cesarewitch

Ben Morgan has tipped a 33/1 outsider at Newmarket and two big-priced selections at York as the Racing Ahead tipster shares his best bets for Saturday’s action.

Newmarket 1.15 – Haatem can dictate from the front

Newmarket’s Cesarewitch card kicks off with a trappy 1m 1f race which sees HAATEM bid to give weight all round.

Some may say that would be tough given the competition he faces but I believe he’s earned that mark and is probably worth a bit more.

’Wathan Number 1 James Doyle jumps off to ride Humidity but I can envisage a race where the race fit Haatem goes out in front under a canny Ryan Moore and dictates the fractions well enough to not be passed late on.

He has plenty of form at the track and has been very strong out of the dip previously so dismiss him at your peril.

Newmarket 3.40 – Tribute has got his act together in time for biggest test to date

Kirchner would appear to be the James Owen number one string here but I am very taken with his number two, NAVAL TRIBUTE who has done nothing but improve all season.

He returned from a mid summer break at Kempton last time out and was ultra impressive when giving weight as well as a good beating to his rivals.

Only up 4lb from that run here I don’t think the handicapper has caught up with him yet especially if you look at his previous form which has all worked out well.

Odds of 33/1 are freely available and I think he looks a great each way play.

York 2.05 – St could be heavenly if handling conditions

ST ANTON is a horse who has grown on me this season and like a typical Richard Hannon horse, just keeps on improving with racing.

Narrowly beaten in the Cambridgeshire last time out when staying on powerfully late on, he seemed to suggest he would appreciate a step up in trip which he gets today at York.

However, the heavens are due to open over the Knavesmire from Friday and testing going would be a slight unknown for him so certainly take that into consideration.

A half decent draw will help and I will be interested to see what the market thinks of him if the ground turns heavy.

York 3.17 – Two darts needed in competitive Sprint

I think there could be a few form reversals to say the least and I’m hoping ARDISIA is the main benefactor of this.

Hugo Palmer’s sprinter came alive this time last year when the ground turned soft and he threatens to be doing the same again this year after his respectable seventh-placed finish at Ayr on heavy groun

Warren Fentiman couldn’t get the gap when he wanted to that day and had to bide his time which certainly cost him a few lengths.

However, the stiff 6f at Ayr might have just caught him out anyway but he will be more at home on this pacey 6f where I expect him to finish in the places.

He has secured a crucial low draw and at around odds of 22/1 I think he is the value bet in the race.

I also have to put up Silver Cup second TOYOTOMI who has landed stall 10, which theoretically is against the trend of single figure draws in this race but only just.

He is a soft ground lover and one who threatens to improve past his current handicap mark.

A midsummer break means he is still relatively fresh compared to some of his rivals on Saturday and that could stand for plenty in the final 100 yards.

16/1 is a very good price and I advise playing both horses in a both to place double also.
