Ayr 1.20 – Hawk to pick up the bill in valuable mile handicap

There is no doubt Richard Spencer targets this meeting with his string and after hitting the jackpot last year he will undoubtedly be on the hunt for more prize money this time around.

He has a great chance in the opening mile handicap with HAWKSBILL who comes here off the back of another promising run at York.

This was preceded by two big runs at Goodwood and all performances suggest he has a big one in him.

He shapes as if a stiff mile on softer ground might just be optimum conditions and he will get all of the above here so I think he is definitely worth following.

Ayr 3.40 – Candy to double up in the Gold Cup

CANDY’s performance in the Silver Cup last year was quite something.

He cantered clear on the wrong side in the shape of a very smart performer and one who certainly relishes this softer ground.

As predicted, he has endured a quiet Summer where he has been mainly seen at the back of the TV but has been dropped a little bit in the handicap as a result.

This race has long been the plan and I am surprised none of the stable’s jockeys have picked to ride him.

This allows Ryan Sexton to get the leg up and what an opportunity he potentially has here.

If returning to somewhere near his best, I think Candy will be bang there at the finish and odds of 33/1 could look very generous.
