Racing Ahead

Welcome to Racing Ahead Magazine – September 2026 Edition

Racing Ahead Magazine looks ahead to the St Leger, Ayr Gold Cup and Cambridgeshire, while celebrating Bow Echo and Trawlerman and introducing a new trainer statistics feature in the September 2026 edition.

It is sad but inevitable that great horses enjoy all-too-brief stellar careers on the Flat.

This last month has seen the early retirement of unbeaten Bow Echo and much-loved Trawlerman – one a beacon of youth with the irrepressible Billy Loughnane aboard, the other a doggedly reliable competitor at the top level for so long.

They will be much missed.

But life goes on and even as we go to Press some welcome rain has lubricated spectacular action at York, even if a drop too much for Ombudsman backers.

In the coming month we look forward eagerly to the St Leger, the Ayr Gold Cup, the Cambridgeshire and so much more.

In addition to the much enjoyed Speed Figures and Andy Newton’s key numbers we have a new feature highlighting detailed trainer stats.

Every month we will draw tight focus on two prominent handlers.

On the dogs front we’ve a bonus this month – we’re delighted to bring you, courtesy of Star Sports, a brilliant and entertaining interview with dogs-loving novelist Dr Louise Powell on her memories of the north-east’s flapping tracks.

It’s all go. Be lucky!
