Ben Morgan’s Saturday tips – Newbury & Curragh – Amelia Earhart set to soar in Irish Oaks

Racing Ahead tipster Ben Morgan picks out his best bets for Saturday’s action at Newbury and the Curragh, including selections in the Super Sprint, Sapphire Stakes and a bid for redemption after Epsom disappointment.

Newbury 3.37 – Bull could be all the rage in Super Sprint

I’m going to have two darts at this competitive event in the hope one sticks.

ETIENNE was the horse at the forefront of my mind when the declarations came out on Thursday as he looks to have been laid out for this race by his super shrewd trainer, Richard Spencer.

One run at Newmarket, where he almost prevailed, would have set him up nicely for this and although experience is always an advantage in this race I’m not sure this year’s renewal is the deepest contest in terms of quality so it might be a case of the best horse winning.

If he steps forward from his debut then he must have a serious chance. One at a bigger price and seemingly the wrong side of the draw is BILL THE BULL.

The form in the book suggests he should be shorter than 16/1 despite history telling you he can’t win from his draw.

But as I said I don’t think it is that strong a renewal so an above average horse ploughing a lone furrow at the far rail might just finish closer than you would initially think.

Curragh 3.25 – Havana could be too hot for rivals in Sapphire Stakes

I’m a big fan of HAVANA ANNA given all that she has achieved so far in her career and I am excited to see what she can do back over 5f.

I have always held doubts over her stamina over 6f but she has proven me wrong on numerous occasions now so I am happy with the fact she does stay 6f but I do believe she could be a better filly over 5f.

This stiff 5f should bring out the best in her with that in mind and I predict her to improve past her rivals who look a little exposed on the whole.

With that said this is her first attempt against her elders so she will have to prove herself at this level but I have very little doubt that she is good enough as that Commonwealth Cup form looks strong.

At 4/1 she looks a fair price.

Curragh 4.35 – Amelia to bounce back from Epsom blowout

I was so confident in AMELIA EARHART in the Oaks at Epsom that I simply have to follow her in again here.

Her blowout there was a bitter disappointment as I thought she looked the standout filly in the race after her dominant Chester performance.

She hasn’t been seen since and I haven’t heard any excuses but I assume something wasn’t quite right that day and with Ryan Moore retaining the ride here suggests connections must be confident that she is back to her best.

If she is then I think she could have outstanding value at 5/1.
