Alexandrova Provided Aidan O’Brien With His First Irish Oaks Winner

It was 20 years ago that trainer Aidan O’Brien first etched his name onto the Irish Oaks winners’ list.

The Kieren Fallon-ridden Alexandrova was the filly that landed the race for the first time for O’Brien in 2006 – following up her recent Epsom Oaks success.

She made it an Oaks treble that season, by also taking the Yorkshire Oaks – which turned out to be her final win.

Alexandrova only raced once more after York – when third in the 2026 Prix de l’Opera at Longchamp.

She was ridden in all-bar-one of her nine career starts by Fallon and ended her career with 4 wins (9 runs) and £652,264 in total prize money.

Aidan O’Brien Has Won The Irish Oaks a Record EIGHT Times

That first Irish Oaks win in 2006 was the first of eight successes in the race for Aidan O’Brien.

The Ballydoyle handler added seven more, with two more coming straight after Alexandrova.

Peeping Fawn followed-up in 2007 and Moonstone in 2008 – both were ridden by Johnny Murtagh.

O’Brien had to wait six more years for his next, when Bracelet landed the Irish Oaks jewels under Colm O’Donoghue.

Seventh Heaven followed in 2016 for jockey Seamie Heffernan.

The O’Brien’s more recent Irish Oaks wins all came for jockey Ryan Moore.

Snowfall (2021), Savethelastdance (2023) and Minnie Hauk (2025) his most recent heading into 2026.

Diamond Necklace and Amelia Earhart could head to the Curragh for Aidan O’Brien this Saturday.

The former will put an unbeaten 5-5 record on the line if lining up, with Diamond Necklace’s last win in the Prix de Diane Longine at Chantilly in the middle of June.

O’Brien’s won the race with a Bracelet – now he could be trying to land the spoils with a Diamond Necklace.

He could also send Amelia Earthart to the race after running 6th in the Epsom Oaks last time.
