Andy Newton’s Sunday Longchamp tips – including Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe fancy

Longchamp Horse Racing Tips Sunday

It’s Arc Day at Longchamp on Sunday – with no fewer than SIX Group One contests that are spearheaded by the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at 3:05pm.

Can last year’s winner Daryz become the first ‘back-to-back’ winner of Europe’s richest middle distance race since Enable?

Our top tipster Andy Newton takes a look at the action and gives you his take and Longchamp horse racing tips for the main Sunday races – with three also being shown in ITV Racing.

Longchamp Horse Racing Tips: Daryz To Double Up In Arc

12:31 Qatar Prix Marcel Boussac – Criterium des Pouliches (Group 1) (2yo Fillies) (Grande Course) (Turf) (2yo) 1m SKY

GREEN EMPRESS is the call to take this for trainer Joseph O’Brien, after running 2nd three times this season to the classy filly Sun Goddess.

Yes, she was beaten 6 1/2 lengths the last day into silver, but that form has been franked again with Sun Goddess taking the Cheveley Park since.

But I think the step up to 7f could eke out more improvement, as in most of her races this season she’s been doing her best work at the finish.

Christophe Soumillon is also booked and he knows Longchamp better than the back of his hand.

Empress can make the others Green with envy here.

13:09 Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere (Group 1) (2yo No Geldings) (New Course) (Turf) (2yo) 7f ITV

MAN’S BEST FRIEND is the call over the likely favourite Folsom Blues, who bolted up the last at the Curragh in the National Stakes.

But his best runs have been with a bit of cut in the ground, so I just wonder if conditions at Longchamp on Sunday will be a bit faster.

This, however, will be a plus for Man’s Best Friend – who has certainly shown his best form on quicker ground.

He seemed to get bogged down the last day at Deauville behind Senorita Bonita – but before that was a good winner of the Richmond Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

That came on G/F ground and even though he won by a length, it could have probably been twice that distance had he not hit trouble about a furlong out.

Ryan Moore rides and Aidan O’Brien loves this race – winning the pot 10 times.

13:47 Prix de l’Abbaye de Longchamp Longines (Group 1) (2yo+) (Sprint Course) (Turf) (2yo+) 5f ITV

MISS YECHANCE is the tentative pick in another typically open running of the Abbaye – which actually doesn’t look the best running.

This Karl Burke sprinter looks on the up after wins at York and Newbury – the last coming in a Group Three.

The first two pulled 2 lengths clear of the rest that day, and even though she only just beat Shagraan that day, seemed to have a more in the tank for me.

Gate 8 looks okay too – with 7 of the last 9 winners from stalls 8 or lower.

Of the rest, Time For Sandals has the ability to win, but she’s becoming frustrating.

The same sort of applies to King Charles III Stakes winner Mission Central, who has been poor since Royal Ascot.

So, if Miss Yechance can’t win – it would be great if Scottish trainer Katie Scott, who only has about 20 horses, can with her improved sprinter Nanna’s Shadow.

15:05 Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (Group 1) (3yo+ No Geldings) (Grande Course) (Turf) (3yo+) 1m4f ITV

Onto the big one and for me this race has always been about the draw – as you really want to be low.

You can see more on the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe draw here and why.

Backed up by 26 of the last 38 winners coming from stalls 7 or lower.

We’ve also not had a winner from gate 11 in recent times, so the well-fancied Maltese Cross has it to do from there.

Diamond Necklace was also handed a nightmare gate in 16 – and the reason the wide gates have struggled is they have to waste a lot of energy early on before the right-hand bend.

Last year the top four home were all drawn 5 or lower. While in 2024, 7 of the top 9 came from 7 or lower too.

All this, however, is great news for last year’s winner DARYZ, who came from gate 2 last season and has stall 5 this time.

He’s 2-2 over this 1m4f trip and here at Longchamp has only lost once (from 8 starts). To be honest, I’m not sure how he’s not shorter in the betting – despite being the clear favourite.

Stablemate Varandir is interesting too from stall 4 and heads here having won the Prix Niel.

While King George winner Kalpana was only 7th in 2025, but has a better gate this time (6) – came from 10 last season.

Others with a chance drawn low are Epsom Oaks winner Thundering On (3) and Benvenuto Cellini (1), but even though low numbers have done well, gate 1 hasn’t.

While after winning Friendly Soul (7) could go well at the price for the Gosden.

So, for me, it’s hard to see past last year’s winner and I’ll take Daryz to double-up – with an Aga Khan Stud 1-2.

🥉Kalpana

15:50 Prix de l’Opera Longines (Group 1) (3yo+ Fillies & Mares) (Grande Course) (Turf) (3yo+) 1m2f SKY

MISS SCOTT and PINK PANTHERA are the two to take on the well-fancied Aventure here.

The Ferland favourite will be all the rage after her recent Deauville G1 win, but I’m not sure she’s much value.

Pink Panthera though caught my eye with a good second to Friendly Soul (runs in the Arc) last time in the Prix Vermeille.

That came over 1m4f so we know she’ll stay this drop back to 1m 2f well and is sure to be ridden with that in-mind.

Being a 3yold, she also gets a handy 5lbs from Aventure and from three runs at Longchamp is yet to finish out of the top three.

Miss Scott is the other pick, for the Gosden yard.

This 3yold also gets the 5lbs age allowance and with only five runs should have more to come.

She was a tidy winner at the Curragh last time (G3) and Christophe Soumillon, who rode the last day, is on again.

16:25 Qatar Prix de la Foret (Group 1) (3yo+) (New Course) (Turf) (3yo+) 7f SKY

NIGHTTIME and THESECRETADVERSARY get the nod in the final race covered on Sunday.

The former probably didn’t quite get home in the Moulin last time over a mile here.

But over 7f at Longchamp, he’s got a top record – 1-2-1 – so the ease back in trip is a big plus.

His yard (Christopher Head) have also won the last two runnings of this and gate 1 looks okay too with 70% of the last 10 coming from stalls 6 or lower.

Jersey Stakes and Jean Prat winner Thesecretadversary is also interesting back in trip after also not quite seeing out the mile last time at Deauville.

But, like Nighttime, he’s got a top SR over 7f – 2-2-2-1-1-1.

So, I’m happy for these two 7f lovers to be my final Longchamp horse racing tips against the field and likely favourite Samangan in the Foret.
