Racing Ahead

Welcome to Racing Ahead Magazine – August 2026 Edition

We reflect on a sizzling summer of racing, look ahead to York’s Ebor Festival and celebrate our loyal community in this August issue of Racing Ahead Magazine.

Sweating up in the parade ring has been a worry for us all – not just the horses!

The heatwave sunshine can be a horror for turf and groundkeepers but it offers a brilliant backdrop for the Flat season highlights.

And we have, of course, plenty still to come. Goodwood will be in full flight as this issue goes to Press and we’ve lots more champing at the bit – including what promises to be a blockbuster Ebor meeting at York.

Our writers and contributors have done wonders this month and we’re pleased to offer a huge range of views, opinions and key information for you cool refection through the peak holiday season.

So much is going wrong in the world but it is a joy to see our Placepot Club, run by the irrepressible Peter Cordwell, go from strength to strength – winnings might seem small but the joy of of the chase offers such big reward.

And on the subject of joy, all of us here are delighted to offer hearty congratulations to avid reader Frank Gunning as he turns 100 this month (see Letters page).

We love to encourage younger readers – but you’ll never better a good old one!

Let’s hope it is winners all round as we have, as ever, a bevvy of tips and a vital stock of advice and information to keep you well up with the best of the August action.

Good luck to all!
