GERRI COLOMBE is a live contender for the Cheltenham Gold Cup says Katie Walsh. The former top jumps jockey was impressed by Gordon Elliott's star who came with a late run to win at Down Royal. She said: “It's hard to knock what Gerri Colombe has done in his career. He'll definitely be a strong contender for the Gold Cup, which is his big target for the season. He's not flashy and sexy like other horses – including Galopin Des Champs, who won the race last year – but he does grind it out and, if you look back in the history books, that type seems to win the Gold Cup more than the flashy ones.  He's a horse that everyone wants in their yard. I'd say he wouldn't be lighting up the gallops in the morning – he'd be a lazy type, to me – but he's clearly got a huge engine and his own way of doing things and that's to grind it out. His class got him through on his first start of the season.” Katie Wash was speaking to horse racing betting site Betway.
