13:50 – Aintree: William Hill Best Odds Guaranteed Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase (GBB Race) Class 3 (4yo+), 2m – ITV
TAURUS BAY was a horse I liked a lot last season after wins at Stratford and here at Aintree over hurdles.
Yes, he was last seen running down the field in the Turners’ Novices Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March, but that was a hot race.
He’s had a break since with connections taking their time with him and looks the sort to make a nice chaser this season.
As we know from last season this Ben Pauling runner goes well fresh too (won first time out) and also likes Aintree – winning over hurdlers here.
So I’ll take this Harry Redknapp-owned 5yold to hit the back of the net. Sorry poor pun!!
Of the rest, Kadastral could bounce back for the Skelton’s after loosing his way last season. But has had a wind op over the summer.
Dovecote winner Klub De Reve is noted too but the Harry Derham form is only average at the moment.
Which cant’ be said for the Twiston-Davies team, who are in fine order and run Un Sens A La Vie.
He was a nice winner over hurdles at Market Rasen last month so will be fitter than most.
But I’ll take DANCE AND GLANCE to be the main danger – for the Antony Honeyball yard that won this race 12 months ago.
He brings fair hurdling form to his switch to fences and is another who is back from a summer wind op.
🥇TAURUS BAY
🥈DANCE AND GLANCE
🥉Un Sens A La Vie
14:25 – Aintree: William Hill Vieux Lion Rouge Veterans’ Handicap Chase (Leg 7 of the Stayers’ Vets’ Chase Series) Class 2 (9yo+, 0–150), 3m 1f – ITV
HOLD YOUR FORT looks the safest call here – in a race full of familiar old names – as he’s at least had a recent run just 11 days ago, whereas the rest are all back from breaks.
This Debra Hamer runner was 2nd at Ffos Las a few week ago and before that won well at Uttoxeter at the end of July.
He gets in here on the same mark as last time (130) and Shane Fenelon rides again to take off 5lbs.
Softer ground is fine too and in so in a race with a lot of questions around the more famous names like Monbeg Genius, Knappers Hill and former Scottish National winner Kitty’s Light – Hold Your Fort is the pick.
🥇HOLD YOUR FORT
🥈Kitty’s Light
🥉Monbeg Genius
15:00 – Aintree: William Hill Old Roan Limited Handicap Chase (Grade 2, GBB Race) Class 1 (4yo+), 2m 4f – ITV
MASTER CHEWY is the call to eat up his rivals in the day’s feature for the in-form Twiston-Davies yard.
The stable’s only win in the race came in 2008 (Knowhere) but can add to that here.
This 9old was runner-up in the race 12 months ago but is now 3lbs better off with Hitman and also heads here off the back of a second wind op.
He’s won on soft ground in the past too, while his form here at Aintree is solid – 1-2-2.
Meaning he’s yet to finish out of the first two at the Liverpool track.
Of the rest, Wendigo and two other course winners Imperial Saint and Boombawn – for Dan Skelton, who won this in 2021 with Allmankind, can do best of the rest.
🥇MASTER CHEWY
🥈Boombawn
🥉Imperial Saint
15:35 – Aintree: William Hill Price Boosts Every Day Handicap Hurdle (GBB Race) Class 2 (4yo+), 2m 4f – ITV
KAMSINAS (e/w) is chanced here for the Fergal O’Brien yard, who have done well in this race. Winning three of the last four.
One of those wins, was in fact, with this horse too in 2024, so we know the track suits.
He’s back from 189 days off and is 5lbs higher than when winning this.
But the yard have been amongst the winners this week and he’s gone okay fresh in the past too.
Regular rider Jonathan Burke gets the leg up.
Of the others, the Dan Skelton team won this 12 months ago and will have the likely favourite – Glancing Jack.
He’ll be hard to keep of of the shake-up too, after a promising second in a fair Newbury Novice Handicap Hurdle last March.
He’s only had three hurdles runs (1 win) so should have more to come.
Norn Iron, A King Of Magic and Race To Base are others to respect.
🥇KAMSINAS (e/w)
🥈Glancing Jack
🥉A Kind Of Magic
