Andy Newton’s ITV Doncaster Horse Racing Tips On Thursday
1:15 DONCASTER – British Stallion Studs ‘Carrie Red’ EBF Fillies’ Nursery Handicap Cl2 (2yo) 6½f ITV
SPEED OF SOUND looks to have an obvious chance after a cracking 3rd to the super classy Sun Goddess at York last time out.
Yes, she was 6 3/4 lengths back that day but still beat 17 others home there and so an opening mark of 81 for this handicap debut looks fair based on that.
She’s also the pick of Saffie Osborne, who you feel would have had the option to ride the other Richard Spencer runner Sexy Chick, with Oisin Murphy getting the leg-up on that one.
Art Of Life is noted too for the Clive Cox yard who won this in 2022 – but will need to settle a tad better than last time when 2nd over 7f at Newbury. The slight drop in trip will help on that front.
While at a bigger price, this has been a good race for the in-form Karl Burke camp – winning 3 of the last nine – and they try again, this time with recent Newmarket winner Kodi Bear Light.

🥈Kodi Bear Light
🥉Act Of Life
1:50 DONCASTER – Weatherbys £300,000 2-Y-O Stakes (GBB Race) Cl2 (2yo) 6½f ITV
NIGHT OF VEGAS can play his cards right and land this valuable 2yold race for the Eve Johnson Houghton team.
This 102-rated son of Lucky Vega is the clear top-rated in the field at 102 and with 8st 11lbs also gets weight off some of the main players.
He was last seen winning a similar race at Newmarket at the end of last month and having won on good-to-soft in the past any rain shouldn’t be an issue.
The pick also represents the same owners as 12 months ago – who won this top juvenile pot with Calendar Girl.
8 of the last 9 winners also hailed from stalls 9 or lower, so gate 6 (which was also the same stall as Calendar Girl) looks perfect.
Of the rest, stall 3 has been a hot gate in recent years (3/9), so Stardom Glory is noted based on that too.
While the Clive Cox team have a cracking 24% SR with their 2yolds at Donny and run Satellite Of Love and Secret Society.

🥉Stardom Glory
2:25 DONCASTER – Pertemps Network Handicap (GBBPlus Race) Cl2 (3yo 0-105) 1m2f ITV
SPYCE (e/w) is the call in a very open 3yold handicap – that cases can be made for most.
This Alan King runner was last seen running 9th (of 16) in the Golden Gates Handicap at Royal Ascot in June – but is down a pound and has also had a wind operation since.
He was also only just under 2 lengths behind Bourbon Blues (6th) that day and meets that horse on similar terms.
Has also won on good-to-soft so the ground should be fine and last season was only 3 lengths behind Pierre Bonnard (4th) in the G3 Zetland Stakes at HQ.
Of the rest, I’ve also been impressed with Knights Charge this season and the Roger Varian yard boast a 22% SR with their 3yold here.
While I’d also not be shocked to see King Of Earth bounce back to winning ways after being highly-tried in the G3 Stensall Stakes last time.
🥇SPYCE (e/w)
🥈Knights Charge
🥉King Of Earth
3:00 DONCASTER – Betfred Park Hill Fillies’ Stakes (Group 2) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m6½f ITV
CONSENT was runner-up in this race 12 months ago and despite having my old pal Luke Morris riding – I think she’s got a great chance of going one better.
In fairness to Mr Morris he’s having a good season and record a great win in the US last weekend, so hopefully he can chip away a bit more into my good books here.
Don’t forget, this Sir Mark Prescott-trained 4yold – is a G1 winner after winning the Qatar Prix de Royallieu at Longchamp last season.
Any rain will be fine – in fact it would be a plus – and it’s interesting the first-time cheekpieces are on today.
She’s also only had two runs this year and can come on for the most recent (4th Lillie Langtry).
Of the others, Prizeland is a horse I like too and she was super impressive when winning a Listed race at York last time.
The step up to 1m6f could eke out more with Oisin Murphy riding.
Danielle is noted as well, but 21 of the last 23 winners have been aged 3 or 4, so that might be against this 5yold.
So Lillie Langtry Stakes close third Waardah is another that is sure to be in the mix in the first-time hood.
🥇CONSENT
🥈PRIZELAND
🥉Waardah
3:35 DONCASTER – Betfred May Hill Stakes (Group 2) Cl1 (2yo) 1m ITV
MUSICAL TIMES is the call to carry on his upward curve after two good wins at Newmarket at Yarmouth.
Godolphin are clearly taking their time with this daughter of Lope De Vega with 70 days between races after two fairly quick wins.
The step up to a mile looks a plus and the Charlie Appleby yard head into Donny in good order – they also won this a few years back with the classy Desert Flower, who also came out of gate 3.
Of the others, Irish raiders Sea Of Rain and Ballyskeagh were 1st and 2nd last time out at the Curragh and look players.
While the horse Musical Times just beat on debut at Newmarket in June – Scommessa Sicura – is also back for more.
🥇MUSICAL TIMES
🥈Scommessa Sicura
🥉Sea Of Rain
