Ben Morgan’s Saturday & Sunday Tips – Newmarket & Uttoxeter – Surprise on the cards in both Classics?

Racing Ahead’s resident tipster Ben Morgan selects his best bets for Saturday & Sunday’s action at Newmarket & Uttoxeter.

Newmarket 3.35 – It all Stacks up in the 2000 Guineas

This year’s renewal of the 2000 Guineas looks wide open on paper and in the form book.

The horses at the top of the market look closely matched and Gstaad has been steadily supported into favouritism in the last few days.

I can sense a bit of a shock here as there are plenty of doubts around a few of these fancied types and one horse who I don’t have any doubts about is THESECRETADVERSARY.

‘Fozzy’ Stack has only ever sent four runners to Newmarket, with two finishing places and one winning.

That suggests he only sends horses to the Suffolk course if he knows they have a good chance of picking up prize money.

Despite odds of 25/1, I think he has a right chance in this race. His two-year-old form, apart from a blip at Ayr, stands up to close inspection, and his returns a few weeks back suggest he has definitely trained on.

He was very strong in the final furlong that day, and the step up to a mile here will only bring about further improvement, I think.

He looks well worth supporting at tasty prices.

Uttoxeter 4.50 – Ski Lodge to excel over intermediate trip

I’m not a huge fan of jumps racing after April, but having backed SKI LODGE last time out, I almost have to support him here as well.

I fancied him at Haydock last time when he travelled like the winner up until the final 2 furlongs.

The fuel tank emptied quite quick then, however, as he clearly didn’t stay that extended 3-mile trip.

He did, however, appreciate the better ground on offer and the combination of that today, along with a shorter trip, 2m 5f, I think he is well up to winning this race.

Newmarket 3.35 -Godolphin Girl good for Guineas

If the 2000 Guineas is an open event, then I think the 1000 Guineas is definitely anyone’s, as hot favourite Precise hasn’t had the smoothest preparation coming into this and could be vulnerable first time out.

Which filly is to come out of the pack? You couldn’t be sure, but I really liked the way ABASHIRI won on debut at Kempton in November.

Charlie Appleby has dampened enthusiasm recently, suggesting the 1000 Guineas is her trial for the Oaks, as she might not be quick enough to win a Guineas.

However, I take a different view as her time at Kempton was very good and I think the form will work out well in the next few weeks.

She looked plenty quick enough to my eye and I don’t think she would have to be a crack miler to win this.

Natural improvement from her Kempton run will see her go close here.
