Potters Corner set for Cheltenham Cross Country bid

Potters Corner is being lined up to run in the first Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase of the season at next week.

The 10-year-old won the Welsh at last year and was prepped for the main event at in April but was scuppered when the pandemic forced the showpiece race to be cancelled.

The Christian -owned horse is now set to head to the Cotswolds for the first running of the Cross Country Chase on November 13.

Williams told Sky Sports: “He's in good form, and we just thought the cross country route might give him a few more options, this season and next. Those staying chases are quite specialist, and you don't want to be running in them every other week, so the other options for him are hurdles or those cross country races.

“He schooled very well – he seemed to enjoy it and he will probably get an entry at Cheltenham next . I don't think you go into those races first time thinking you'll win – I don't know how much experience you need.

“It might give him a bit more longevity, and if he's badly handicapped you can have a look at the cross country route.”

The Cross Country Chase has three heats over the campaign, with the second event scheduled to take place in December before the third and final race takes place during the at Cheltenham in March.
