Champion apprentice Cieren Fallon has joined Qatar Racing where he will work as their second jockey.
Reigning British Champion Jockey Oisin Murphy currently holds the number one role within the organisation, but the current restrictions, brought about by the coronavirus pandemic, that means jockeys can only ride at one meeting per day, has led to Qatar Racing bringing in a number two.
Fallon is the man that has been chosen to take on that role, with the son of six-time champion jockey Kieren Fallon looking forward to what the future holds within the organisation.
“I feel hugely honoured to be joining the Qatar Racing team and am very thankful for those who have supported me to date. I am looking forward to what will hopefully be a very successful partnership,” Fallon told reporters.
The 22-year-old has already enjoyed a successful 2020, claiming his first Group One success aboard Roger Teal's Oxted in the July Cup at Newmarket and he is a jockey that Qatar Racing supremo Sheikh Fahad al Thani has had his eye on for some time.
“The one-meeting restriction, brought in by the British Horseracing Authority, means we need to expand our team; Sheikh Fahad and I are thrilled that Cieren is joining as second jockey – he will be a huge asset,” David Redvers, racing manager to Qatar Racing confirmed.
“Sheikh Fahad has been watching Cieren from the outset of his career and has been very impressed by his riding under the tutelage of William Haggas.”
