Dettori completes Ascot set

Frankie completed the Group One set at Royal after he partnered Alpine Star to Coronation Stakes glory.

It proved to be a masterful ride from the Italian legend, pushing Alpine Star to an impressive four-and-a-quarter-length victory over Sharing, with favourite Quadrilateral a further length-and-three-quarters back in third.

Dettori was finally delighted to have landed the one Group One race at that had previously eluded him as his fine week continues.

“I've conquered Royal Ascot!” said Dettori.

“For some reason or another I never managed to get on the right horse. I was very excited about the ride; I had a good draw, a good split; the filly was beautifully prepared by Jessica. I'm thrilled.

“I really fancied the filly, but I didn't want to jinx it. I kept quiet. Jessie approached me about 10 days ago when she knew their jockey couldn't fly here.”

Alpine Star has been cut for the Investec on the back of her impressive performance, although Dettori has indicated that a run in the is by no means guaranteed.

“She'll definitely get a mile and a quarter,” Dettori added. “A mile and a half? I don't know. At the moment, a mile and a quarter would be her best distance.

“She won in good style – she's up there with the best fillies around at the moment.”
