Trainer William Haggas fears he may have to scrap plans to run Addeybb at Royal Ascot due to the ground being too firm.
The six-year-old returned to the UK at the end of April following a highly successful stint in Australia, picking up two Group 1 wins with victory in the Ranvet Stakes at Rosehill shortly before landing Randwick's Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
Having banked close to $2million AUD for connections, the next hope for Addeybb had been Royal Ascot in June in the hope he could back up his victory at the meeting in the Wolferton Stakes last year.
However, Haggas fears conditions may not suit a run in the Prince of Wales's with the ground already hard and says he will have to scrap those plans unless the weather changes dramatically.
“He's in good form and if we have a few thunderstorms at Ascot he might go for the Prince of Wales's,” he told Racing TV.
“The problem is, I've spoken to one of my owners who is a grown-up farmer and spends a lot of time studying the weather, or getting someone to study the weather, and he said the next appreciable rain will be in September.
“He said wheat prices are going up daily and that's the sign it's going to be a drought.”
Whether he runs at Royal Ascot or not, Addeybb is still likely to head to the Berkshire track at some point in 2020 with British Champions Day on Haggas' radar as he looks for his charge to go one better than his second-place finish behind Magical in the Qipco Champion Stakes last year.
