Elliott’s Irish jumps record delight

Gordon described securing a record 194 winners in an Irish jump season at Downpatrick on Sunday as ‘unbelievable'.

The County Meath trainer went close last year when he equalled ' record of 193 and he again reached that total on Sunday when Percy won the WKD Maiden Hurdle and Isodon came out on top in the digita.agency Handicap Hurdle.

However, Elliott set a new record later in the card when favourite Poormans Hill claimed the Toals Bookmakers Ulster Irish EBF Handicap Chase by six and a half lengths from Tulsa Jack.

“It's unbelievable. Obviously we trained 193 last year which Willie had done before and we levelled it,” said Elliott.

“I'm just unfortunate I'm around the same time as Willie ! It's great for Irish .”

On Poormans Hill, Elliott added: “He likes this place. I was a bit worried after the run the last day that it might have took the edge off him. Out Sam ran well as well, so we are happy.

“I'd say Poormans Hill would have outstayed him, but I'd say he would have been a good second if he wasn't wiped out, but he ran a good race. He showed heart today and he's been disappointing so we are happy.

“Poormans Hill is still in the Irish National and if he sneaked into it you never know.”
