Egan winning fitness battle for Royal Ascot

Jockey John Egan appears to be winning his battle to be fit for later this month.

The Irishman suffered a cracked vertebra when he fell off Porta Rosa in the 32Red Handicap at on May 31, an injury that put his participation at Royal in doubt.

However, Egan's agent Steven Croft has now revealed his client is making good progress in his recovery and he has every chance of being fit for the prestigious meeting, which is due to get underway on June 20.

“He's in good form and aiming to be back for Royal Ascot,” Croft said. “It was only a minor crack, all his movement is fine and he is back training on the Equicizer.

“It's all going well and if he continues improving as he has done, he will hopefully be back for Royal Ascot. Obviously you take each day as it comes, but it's all been positive so far.”
