Morris cool on National double chances

Mouse Morris says he is not putting any pressure on his camp to deliver a second straight Grand success on Saturday.

The Irish handler had tears in his eyes as Rule The World stormed to glory 12 months ago, a victory that came on the back of a tough year following the tragic death of his son.

Morris returns to Merseyside on Saturday, with Irish National winners Rogue Angel and Thunder And Roses primed to go well, as he aims to become the first trainer since Ginger McCain to win back-to-back Nationals.

He is due to have experienced jockeys on board in Bryan Cooper and Mark Enright but the Tipperary trainer is keeping his cards close to his chest when it comes to his expectations.

Rather than talk up his chances, Morris says he is happy to let his rivals take the pressure.

He said: “We're going there with no pressure as the likelihood of winning it two years in a row is probably non-existent.

“They're two Irish National winners and I don't think the ground will be an inconvenience to either of them.”
