Sole Power not heading for retirement

The nine-year-old is yet to claim a single victory in 2016 and could only come home seventh of 13 in the Group 2 Flying Five at the this month.

Sole Power is set to have a go at the Group 3 John Guest Bengough Stakes at on Saturday week in the hope of making some improvement.

Paddy Power, whose family own the five-time Group One-winning sprinter, insists that Ascot is not going to be his swansong.

Power said: “Absolutely not. He loves it out in Dubai and I had a chat with Dad yesterday and he is keen for him to head out to again next year.

“Sole Power is still loving life and there is absolutely no talk of retirement.

“He's entered this weekend at the Curragh but he won't be running there and he won't be running in the Abbaye either. He will instead go to Ascot for a Group 3 on Saturday week.

“I know he hasn't won this year and he used to dominate all the top sprints but he is still running well and has been unlucky. Eddie [Lynam] thought he was as good as ever heading into the , and I'm convinced he would have finished second to there with some luck in running?
