Warwickshire-based racehorse trainer Tom Ellis has announced a significant step forward for his operation as he matches last season’s total number of winners with months still remaining in the current campaign.

The strong early performance reflects the continued momentum and high standards within the yard.

To build on this success and support the yard’s growing ambitions, Ellis has appointed Lester Futter as Assistant Trainer.

Futter joins with an impressive background in the industry, being the son of David Futter, founder of the renowned Yorton Stud, one of the UK’s leading stallion and producers of National Hunt Horses.

Delighted

Lester joins from Derek O’Connor’s yard, where he has spent the last few years.

Ellis said: “We’re delighted with how the season has started, and reaching last year’s tally this early is a credit to the whole team.

“Bringing Lester on board is an exciting step for us. He has a fantastic grounding in the sport, great instincts, and the kind of work ethic that fits perfectly with our ambitions for the yard.”

In his new role, Futter will support day-to-day training operations, horse development, and strategic planning. The yard aims to push performance standards even higher.

Futter added: “I’m thrilled to be joining Tom Ellis Racing. The yard has a brilliant atmosphere and a clear drive for excellence.

“I’m looking forward to contributing to the next chapter of its success.”

With a season already off to a remarkable start and strengthened leadership in place, Tom and Gina Ellis are feeling confident. They are looking forward to the rest of the season.
