Belardo set for Newmarket return

is set to return to the scene of his last victory when he races at in the Group Two Dubai Challenge Stakes next week.

The Roger Varian colt was last in action at the course when he was victorious in the Dubai Dewhurst Stakes at the end of last year, a result that helped him be crowned Champion European two-year-old for the season.

Since then the Irish star has endured a difficult 2015, with his best performance to date being a fourth-place finish in the Irish 2,000 Guineas back in May, but he will be hoping to improve on that showing on his return to the Suffolk-based course.

The three-year-old, who is jointly owned by Godolphin and Prince Faisal, had been expected to compete at this weekend, but will instead be saved for next 's meeting.

Prince Faisal's manager, Ted Voute, confirmed their intention to race him in the Challenge Stakes and admitted that he is keen for Belardo to build on his last victory nearly 12 months ago.

He said: “We will be aiming him at the Challenge Stakes over seven furlongs back at the scene of the crime. He's won a Dewhurst and they can never take that away from us. Dewhurst winners also tend to make good stallions, too.”
