GLORIOUS GOODWOOD Horse Racing Tips (Thurs 30th July): Day Three ‘Race-by-Race’ Breakdown

13:50 – Coral Kincsem Heritage Handicap (1m 2f) | ITV

DIAL ME IN (e/w) looks like fantastic value to kick off day three.

This Joseph O’Brien runner finished well down the field in 13th last time out at Ascot in the King George V Stakes.

But don’t let that fool you-he was forced to race exceptionally wide around the bend that day, which basically ended his chances before the turn.

He drops a pound here, and I expect the step back down to 1m2f will suit him down to the ground, much like his solid run over this distance at Roscommon back in May.

To top it off, that Ascot form line has held up beautifully, most notably with runner-up Al Azd bolting up at Sandown since.

With Oaks-winning jockey Dylan Browne McMonagle making the trip over to ride, he looks a massive player.

Looking at the opposition, the Gosden stable has taken this four times in the past, so their runner Harmonics demands respect.

Then there’s CIARRAI ABU, which my Final Furlong podcast pal Jaime Wrenn tells me translates to “Up Kerry.”

This Harry Eustace colt somehow got his head down to win at Ascot in one of the tightest photo finishes you’ll ever see.

That victory came over a mile, but the way he finished strongly indicates that stepping up to 1m2f is exactly what the doctor ordered.

(Here’s hoping Ciarrai Abu fares a bit better than Kerry’s footballers did against Mayo recently!)

14:25 – Markel Richmond Stakes (Group 2) (6f) | ITV

CUT A DASH put in a huge effort to finish fourth in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot, and I fully expect him to go three places better today.

He was only beaten by a length in a tight blanket finish, and that was his first real attempt over today’s six-furlong trip.

The sharper, quicker track at Goodwood will play right into his hands, and Richard Hannon’s yard boasts a formidable record in the Richmond, having bagged six wins from the last 18 runnings.

Night In Vegas (5th in the Coventry) and Adaay Of Scarlett (2nd in the Coventry) both share tied-in form lines here, while Flann Sunna comes in 2-for-2 and looks like a serious talent in the making.

However, Flann Sunna has to contend with stall 10-a tough ask when you consider that every single one of the last 13 winners hailed from gate 8 or lower.

If you’re looking for a bit of value at a price, Clive Cox is another trainer who targets this race with great success, winning three of the last seven, including with Coppull last year.

It would be foolish to ignore his sole representative, JAAN KI TURKI. He could only manage ninth in the Coventry, but he’s since come out and bolted up at Ffos Las with total authority.

15:00 – Gordon Stakes (Group 3) (1m 4f) | ITV

ENCELADUS is the clear pick to back up his impressive Royal Ascot win in the King George V Stakes and hand Joseph O’Brien his first-ever Gordon Stakes.

He showed incredible grit to win that day, and with runner-up Al Azd since romping home at Sandown, the form looks rock-solid.

Ryan Moore took the reins last time, but O’Brien’s stable jockey Dylan Browne McMonagle steps in today.

He’s currently sitting around 25/1 for the St Leger-which looks like a tempting ante-post punt given how strongly he stays-but for now, I expect him to outstay Epsom Derby fourth Bay Of Brilliance, who still has a few distance stamina questions to answer.

Sahara King, Shaihaan, and Geryon look best placed to battle it out for the minor spots.

15:35 – Qatar Nassau Stakes (Group 1) (1m 2f) | ITV

FRIENDLY SOUL appeals as the big value play to lower the colours of hot favourite Diamond Necklace, who arrives here unbeaten in five starts.

Diamond Necklace showed plenty of heart to land the Group 1 Prix de Diane Longines at Chantilly last time, but she only just held on by a short neck.

Third-placed Inis Mor has since backed up that form with a close second in the Irish Oaks. Diamond Necklace also receives a handy 9lb weight allowance from the older horses, but she’s going to need a true career-best effort as she takes on older rivals for the very first time.

See The Fire has finished second and third in this race previously, so she’s bound to be in the thick of it again-though being turned over twice in the same contest raises a few slight alarm bells.

That leads me to the John & Thady Gosden runner, Friendly Soul, as the one most likely to blow this race wide open.

She suffered a nightmare run through traffic in the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot, but she absolutely flew the moment daylight opened up.

It was just a fraction too late to reel in the winner, Blue Bolt, but with Blue Bolt going on to win the Falmouth Stakes and fourth-placed Kon Tiki scoring last weekend, the form lines are glowing.

Giving away 9lb to the favourite makes life tricky, but with William Buick taking the ride for the first time and the Gosden stable hunting a sixth Nassau title, Friendly Soul looks the standout value bet.

16:10 – Buccellati Handicap (5f) | ITV

Thursday’s ITV finale presents a fiercely competitive handicap to solve, with bookies pricing up at around 7/1 the field across the board.

You can make genuine cases for Pilu, She’s Got A Brother, Schrodinger’s Cat, and Naana’s Shadow, but I’ve narrowed my focus down to two: MISS YECHANCE and OLD IS GOLD.

Miss Yechance put in a respectable effort to finish seventh in the Palace Of Holyroodhouse Stakes at Royal Ascot, but she actually ran that entire race missing a shoe.

She showed plenty of early speed to suggest Goodwood’s sharp track will suit her style much better, and fourth-placed Calico Blue has already come out and won since.

Add in Karl Burke’s impressive 6-for-27 strike rate with three-year-olds at Goodwood, and she looks primed for a huge run.

Old Is Gold is the other essential saver. He finished sixth at Sandown last time, but he completely blew the start and did remarkably well to finish within three lengths of the winner.

The runner-up that day was-once again-the in-form Calico Blue, and that run was his first outing since being gelded.

Crucially, 9 of the last 11 winners of this race came from stall 9 or lower. With Old Is Gold drawn in 1 and Miss Yechance in 6, both horses have the draw bias firmly on their side.
