Our Sky Racing correspondent has certainly been clocking up the miles in recent weeks

Horses usually get a well-deserved break after a busy campaign; no such luck for my faithful VW Golf, now on its notional return journey from the Moon, 240,000 miles away. As the speedo clock ticks relentlessly towards 300,000 miles, the homecoming is probably a formality but I’m less confident that the pilot will be still at the wheel for the victory parade with 180,000 miles still to go; that’s a lot of trips to Newcastle.
