See Andy Newton’s ITV Racing tips from Aintree and Hexham on Friday 6th October – including the rescheduled Haldon Gold Cup. 

In total, there are EIGHT ITV Racing over jumps from these two tracks.

At Aintree, the Haldon Gold Cup (3pm) has been moved from Exeter with its original home unraceable at the moment.

While at Hexham the ITV4 cameras are there to take in three races.

Andy Newton’s Aintree ITV Racing Tips: Skelton To Have a Good Day In Liverpool 

12:40 Aintree – Bet £10 To Get £40 BetMGM Novices’ Hurdle (Novice’ Championship Hurdle Series Qualifier (GBB) Cl3 (4yo+) 2m 1f ITV4

RISKY OBSESSION lost his way at the end of last season after a good NH Flat win at Warwick on New Year’s Eve – but can get back on track here.

This Dan Skelton runner is sure to have been well-schooled for this hurdles debut and actually his 6th to Forthfactor in the Aintree bumper wasn’t a bad effort.

The winner has since franked the form to win well and that track experience will be a plus.

Connections are also putting the tongue-tie on here and with only three rivals looks to have a good chance to get off the mark over the sticks.

Harry Skelton rides.

Carlisle winner Watery Borren and the Sean Bowen-ridden Aqua Bleu can pick up the pieces if the Skelton horse underperforms.

LYSSENKO looks to be another good chance on the card for the Skelton yard – coming here unbeaten after three runs in France.

So is having her stable debut today but looks a nice recruit that changed hands for €210k.

The market will be a good guide as that French form has to be taken on trust, but he’s sure to attract plenty of interest.

Of the rest, All In You will be fit from a spin on the flat at York recently and has Sean Bowen in the saddle. However, the champion jockey is actually only 4-52 over hurdles here.

Dedicated Hero and Manuelito, with Harry Cobden booked to ride, are others to note.

14:25 Aintree –  BetMGM “Future Stars” Silver Bowl “Chasing Excellence” Novices’ Chase (Chasing Excellence Initiative) (GBB) 3m 1f ITV4

ROYAL INFANTRY is yet another good chance on the day for the Skelton boys, who took this race last season with Doyen Quest (run at Exeter).

There is not a lot between the trio on the ratings with the pick and Klimt Madrik on 140 and Intosomethinggood 135.

Royal Infantry will also have to give the younger Klimt Madrik 5lbs so it won’t be easy.

However, I was impressed with his win at Hexham last month  – beating the enigma that his Jeriko Du Reponet by an easy 7 1/2 lengths.

That came over 2m4f so needs to prove himself over this longer 3m1f distance.

But he wasn’t stopping the last day to suggest he might be hard to peg back from the front.

15:00 Aintree –  BetMGM Haldon Gold Cup Handicap Chase (Grade 2) (Limited Handicap Chase) (GBB Race) 2m ITV4

MIRABAD is the call to follow up Skelton’s win (Thistle Ask) in this race 12 months ago, when it was run at Exeter.

The switch to Aintree looks a big plus for this 7yold though – as he returns to the scene of his G1 Maghull Novices’ Chase win in April.

He’s returned this season with a saying on 2nd in a decent Listed race at Carlisle to Wilful and had the former Champion Hurdler Golden Ace back in third.

Rubaud, who also runs here, was back in 4th that day too – yet is 17lbs better off this time with the Skelton runner.

But the Nicholls runner is a better hurdler for me – backed up with being just 1-6 over fences.

We’ve also got the 2024 winner JPR One in the race and he’s looking to be the first horse since God’s Own to win back the Haldon Gold Cup.

The Tizzard yard are going great guns at the moment to and he returned with a top win at Cheltenham last month.

This will be his first run at Aintree, but there are no reasons to suggest it wont suit.

However, with Brendan Powell taking a nasty fall in the week, Jonjo O’Neill Jr takes over in the saddle for the first time.

15:35 Aintree – BetMGM Handicap Chase (Premier Handicap) (GBB Race) Cl1 (4yo+) 3m 1f (ITV4)

LEAVE OF ABSENCE is a horse that is often best caught fresh – winning first time out last season at Cheltenham.

Therefore, the 209-day break isn’t too much of a worry – having last been seen at the Cheltenham and Aintree Festivals.

He’s also back rated 3lbs lower than his last race and even though he’s still 10lbs higher than his last win, should get his conditions on Friday.

Rex Dingle, who has won on him twice, is also back in the saddle.

Here Comes Georgie is another that will be popular for the Skeltons after a good win at Cheltenham last month too.

As will Tom Lacey’s Montregard and Kap Vert.

But of the rest, last year’s Rowland Meyrick Chase winner was last seen running third here in April and on that effort would be a big player too.

Andy Newton’s Hexham ITV Racing Tips: Ruby Island Can Land Hexham Treasure

 

13:35 Hexham – carpetgallop.co.uk Handicap Chase (Go North Red Rum Series Qualifier) Cl5 (4yo+ 0-100) 3m ITV4

WALK TALL represents the in-form Joe Tizzard yard, who is taken to make the trip north pay off.

This 6yold is into a handicap for the first time on a mark of 100, which looks fair based on some promising runs over hurdles last season.

He’s had a wind op since his last run too (Sept) and connections are pitching him in here at C5 level on his chase debut.

The Tizzard horses are going well at the moment too – 37% SR at the time of writing. And despite having 12st here, this looks a winnable race for this lightly-raced 6yold.

Of the rest, recent course winner C’Mon So is up 7lbs for that win but represents the Lucinda Russell & Michael Scudamore yard and they’ve won 2 of the last 4 runnings of this.

While Micky Hammond has won 2 of the last 9 and he’s got the Brian Hughes-ridden Aill Dubh.

14:10 Hexham – carpetgallop.co.uk Handicap Chase (GBB Race) Cl3 (4yo+ 0-135) 2m4f ITV4

RUBY ISLAND can land the jewels here for the Nicky Richards yard.

This consistent 9yold is a course winner at Hexham after winning a NH Flat race here in 2022 and this is her first visit back.

She ran well in some Listed Mares Chases last season and has gone okay fresh in the past too, so the 198-day break isn’t a worry.

Yes, she returns on a career-high mark (130) but brings solid form to the table. Plus, the Richards yard also boast a solid 27% SR over fences here.

The final plus is jockey Danny McMenamin won this race last year too.

Scarface, who is another for the in-form Joe Tizzard team at Hexham on Friday, can go well too.

While Hombre De Guerra will be better for a recent 4th at Perth and goes for the Russell/Scudamore camp.

KOOL RAOUL is taken to follow-up his nice CD win here last time out – despite being up 6lbs.

That success saw him power home by 5 1/2 lengths and in a similar race there’s every reason to think he’ll be bang there again.

He also actually gets in here with 6lbs less in weight to carry with the 120-rated and course winner High Dancer in the race.

Of the rest, the Henry Daly yard are going well and run Titanium Ring.

But Lucinda Russell and Michael Scudamore have a 28% SR here to add further confidence around the main pick.
