Conditional jockey Aamilah Aswat has been handed a 20-day suspension after using her whip five times over the permitted limit at Chepstow last week.
Back in February, Aswat made history as the first Black female jump jockey to ride a UK winner, and she’s already built up a solid tally of five wins.
But her promising early career has just hit its first real bump in the road.

The breach came aboard Reallyntruthfully-who finished fourth in the DragonBet John Ayres Memorial Handicap Hurdle for Kim Bailey and Mat Nicholls, the yard where Aswat is based.
Having used her whip 12 times in total, her 20-day ban will run from October 27 through November 15, with one of those days set aside for specialized coaching.

Elsewhere, jockey Kieren Fox faces a 10-day ban following an inquiry into his ride at Wolverhampton on Tuesday evening.
Stewards concluded he failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure his mount was run on its merits.
Fox was aboard Charlie Pike’s 40-1 outsider Missmisfortune, finishing fourth in a nine-runner field for the Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Novice Stakes.
Questioned over his efforts in the final furlong, stewards noted he used the whip only once in the closing stages and appeared to ride with a “questionable level of vigour” all the way to the line.
His suspension covers October 27–31 and November 2–6.
