13:15 NEWMARKET – Betway British EBF Rosemary Stakes (Listed Race) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m ITV

ALOBAYYAH is given another chance to after disappointing at Haydock last time in the Dick Hern Stakes over a mile.

She wasn’t the best away that day and then took a bit of a tug, so lasting out at the business end was always going to be tricky.

That day, she also got a bit caught in behind horses on the rail and had to switch out, which again cost her ground and momentum.

She wouldn’t have won there, but with several factors against her then there’s enough to forgive that outing.

The William Haggas yard have also won this twice since 2017, and strangely stall 7 has been a good gate. Backed up with 3 of the last 7 winners hailing from this berth.

The Charlie Johnston team took this pot 12 months ago and try again with Arisag, who is the top-rated – but also hasn’t won for over two years, which is the worry.

So, Godolphin’s unexposed recent Kempton winner Gilding The Lily, for the in-form William Buick, and the consistent Estissa are preferred at the dangers.

13:50 NEWMARKET – Princess Royal Stakes (Sponsored By Betway) (Group 3) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m4f ITV

FRANCOPHONE (e/w) landed the Rosemary Stakes on this card (previous race) 12 months ago and looks a fair e/w price to go well upped in grade.

Since winning last season here she’s been tried in slightly better races, but dropped back to Listed level last time to run an improved 2nd to Romantic Symphony on the July course here.

That was also her first try over this 1m4f trip, so there could be more to come over it and she also pulled 2 1/2 lengths clear of the third that day.

She’s also run three times on the Rowley Mile and is yet to finish out of the top 4 – James Doyle rides.

Of the rest, Ryan Moore stands out being booked to ride Inis Mor for David Menuisier and she brings some top G1 form to the table.

She’s also the top-rated and, therefore the one to beat. It will be a shock if she’s not close up.

While Prizeland is a horse I’ve liked this season too. She was second in the Lingfield Oaks Trial and bettered that with a Listed win at York last month.

She probably didn’t stay the 1m 6f 12/f in the Park Hill Stakes at Donny last time, so the ease back to 1m 4f looks a good move.

14:25 NEWMARKET – Betway Rockfel Stakes (Group 2) Cl1 (2yo) 7f ITV

SPIRITED GESTURE gets the nod here for the Gosdens after two impressive wins at Newmarket (July) and last time on the AW at Newcastle.

She scooted away to win by 3 lengths the last day at Gosforth Park, which she was entitled to at 1/6 odds.

But the second, Angel In My Heart, has run two good races since to give the form some substance.

She also holds a G1 Fillies’ Mile entry for next month, so this Kingman filly will be needing to get the job done here in order to fulfil that engagement.

Colin Keane also comes over for the ride for his employers Juddmonte. Riding her for the first time.

Albany Stakes third Light Of Dawn is respected too, but the niggle is the Karl Burke yard are only 2-42 with their 2yolds here.

While a similar thing applies to the Eve Johnson Houghton runner Sugar Please with the yard only 1-23 with their juveniles at this venue.

Stall 1 has been a good gate, with 3 of the last 4 winning from here (Sea Venture).

Plus I think the Saffie Osborne-ridden Speed Of Sound could be a tiny bit over-priced after a good win at Doncaster last time.

15:00 NEWMARKET – Betway Joel Stakes (Group 2) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m ITV

TALK OF NEW YORK hasn’t really kicked on this season as many thought he might. However, he’s got a top chance to get back on track here.

This year’s Group Two Joel Stakes doesn’t look the best of renewals and getting 4lbs from two of the other main players – Persica and The Lost King – then the Charlie Appleby runner should be hard to beat.

He was last seen beaten in the Thoroughbred Stakes at Glorious Goodwood at the end of July (1/2 a length). And before that wasn’t disgraced when 3rd to Bow Echo in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot (watch below).

That’s the best form on show here and a 2 month break and the return to Newmarket, where he won earlier this season, can see him get back to winning ways.

The Charlie Appleby yard remain in tip-top form too and can win the Joel Stakes for the first time.

Persica has had another top season with two wins at Listed and G3 level, but is yet to win a race in a higher grade.

And Hankelow is a proven CD winner and will be better on the firmer ground. While the first-time cheekpieces are also interesting.

But I’ll take The Lost King to follow Talk Of New York home.

He probably should have beaten Persica last time at Haydock and with Oisin Murphy taking over that is a plus.

15:35 NEWMARKET – Betway Godolphin Stakes (Listed Race) Cl1 (3yo) 1m4f ITV

KOKBASTAU has improved through the ranks this season and is the pick to carry that on here.

Rated 88 when winning at Kempton in August and is now into a Listed race on a mark of 106.

Meaning he’s gone up 18lbs in around 6 weeks and fully deserves his chance in this higher grade.

That last win came over 1m2f, which he probably found short enough, so back up to 1m4f – a trip he’s won twice over – is a big plus.

He looks to have more to fear from a double-pronged attack from Godolphin – Fortitudine and Castlemont.

Both are 2-2 in their opening races and both already have fair reputations.

Especially Fortitudine, who famously bolted up by 21 lengths on debut at Kempton on early August and has since won again there. But this time by 2 1/4 lengths.

William Buick prefers Fortitudine as well, with Billy Loughnane on Castlemont. So that gives us a small steer as to the pecking order of the Boys in Blue runners.

Shergar Cup winner Archers Bay makes up the five and is certainly no back number with Ryan Moore riding.
