The shock news that hit the horse racing world on Tuesday, was the announcement top 3yold Bow Echo will be retired.
Bow Echo was last seen winning the G1 Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood on 29th July and was expected to head to France next.
With the Prix du Moulin at Longchamp on September 6 one talked about target.
It would have then been off to the Breeders’ Cup in America. For a tilt at either the Classic or Turf.
However, all these plans have been quashed after the Bow Echo retirement news.
With Bow Echo expected to have suffered a setback in the last few days that’s forced the hand of connections.
Bow Echo’s trainer George Boughey said: “It has been the honour of a lifetime to train a horse like Bow Echo. He has given us some extraordinary days and taken everyone involved on a journey we will never forget.
“To retire unbeaten, having won the 2,000 Guineas, St James’s Palace Stakes and Sussex Stakes says everything about what an exceptional racehorse he has been.”
Boughey added: “Bow Echo’s remarkable story began with his owner-breeder, the late Sheikh Mohammed Obaid and it is a great sadness that he was not here to see what a lifetime of breeding was able to produce.
“We will all miss seeing him at home and on the racecourse but we are incredibly excited for his next chapter and in time, to see a new generation of his progeny on the racecourse.

Bow Echo Last Seen Winning The Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood
Sussex Stakes (Group 1, July 29, 2026): Bow Echo’s final appearance on a racecourse was a triumph at Glorious Goodwood.
Held up in midfield, he quickened past Gstaad to claim the Sussex Stakes by half a length.
In doing so, Bow Echo completed the coveted 2,000 Guineas, St James’s Palace Stakes, and Sussex Stakes treble in the same season.
A rare feat last accomplished by the legendary Frankel in 2011.
Bow Echo’s Best Wins
Royal Lodge Stakes (Group 2, 2025): The victory that firmly put him on the map as a juvenile. Showing an electric turn of foot at Newmarket, he comfortably bagged his first major pattern race by a length.
2,000 Guineas (Group 1, 2026): Bow Echo launched his Classic campaign at Newmarket with an authoritative 2 3/4 length victory. Surging clear of high-class rival Gstaad to secure his first Group 1 title. The win game jockey Billy Loughnane his first English Classic.
St James’s Palace Stakes (Group 1, 2026): At Royal Ascot, he demonstrated immense courage and tenacity. After being hampered early on, he quickened wide around the bend and gamely fended off a late surge from Gstaad to win by a short head.
Sussex Stakes (Group 1, 2026): In what turned out to be his last race on the track, Bow Echo came with a storming late run to collar old rival Gstaad in the closing stages.

Why Is Bow Echo Retiring?
Connections announced Bow Echo’s retirement after he sustained a training injury that will prevent him from making a full return to competitive racing.
While his racing career ends earlier than fans hoped, he remains in excellent general health and retires with a flawless 6-for-6 record.
As a homebred for the late Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum carrying a rich pedigree.
The Night Of Thunder colt is now expected to head to stud as one of the most exciting young stallion prospects in flat racing.
