There is a lot to consider with the Oaks and Derby when assessing your Epsom horse racing tips this weekend. Obviously, you need a classy horse probably from a top stable. That rarely does much to whittle the fields.
But you also need to project forward on the form shown to date with unexposed horses early in the season.
And then there’s the stamina question… and the track question to factor into any Epsom horse racing tips.
So, yes, a lot to consider and a lot that can be got wrong. In short, it’s perilous punting territory. The flip side of that coin is some of the horses are probably bigger odds than they ought to be.
I think both races have the right favourites, and I’m on Amelia at fancy odds in the Oaks.
She is very likely to see the trip out – while I’d have reservations about Legacy Link and Thundering On on that score, though both have pedigrees to die for.
But she is more exposed than the rest and will need to step forward again; the trip should aid her in doing that.
A La Prochaine Looks Over-Priced In The Oaks
At tastier prices, horses running on from the Beckett stable in the two pre-eminent trials, the Cheshire Oaks and the Musidora, can go well.
A La Prochaine was having just her second start when a keeping on third at Chester, while K Sarra was more of an eyecatcher than the winner at York in my opinion and was overpriced before taking strong support in the past few days.
And then there’s Cameo, another experienced Ballydoyle runner likely to see the trip out and an easy winner of the Lingfield Oaks Trial when last seen.
That form is probably relatively weak but she did it well and is a player in a race where it’s hard to discount many. Like I said, perilous punting territory.
As you may have guessed, I don’t have a strong view, except that I’m trying to make a market around perceived stamina weaknesses in the second and third favourites (Legacy Link/Thundering On).
If I’m wrong about that – reasonable chance! – I’ll have done my money.

Maltese Cross The Each-way Epsom Derby Value
In the Derby, Benvenuto Cellini looks a sound stayer and must have a great chance.
Against him, Item is obvious but I prefer the each way prospects of Maltese Cross, a son of Derby winner Sea The Stars out of a mare by Derby winner Camelot.
He’s patently bred for the job, though that could make him a smidge slow against speedier pedigrees with stamina reinforcement. Still, he’s a fair price for small money to find out.
We’ll all know more by 4.15pm on Saturday if any of my Epsom horse racing tips have landed!
GOOD LUCK ALL
