Racing Ahead’s resident tipster Ben Morgan selects his best bets for Saturday’s action at Goodwood and Haydock.
Goodwood 1.25 – Varian improver will have to be good to overcome draw
WECHAAD was a two year old that I latched on to at the back end of last year and he certainly repaid that support when hosing up at Doncaster.
He looked a lot better than his mark on paper that day and so proved to be the case.
A solid third at his first attempt at Group company suggested he could make that jump in time, especially with another Winter on his back.
He returns at Goodwood tomorrow but has been no favours by draw posted 15 of 18 in a race which history tells you anything with a double figure draw won’t win.
However, a lot of the fancied types are drawn high and every so often these trends have to be broken so I’m hoping Ray Dawson can work his magic and deliver this colt at the right time.
Whatever the result I think he is a horse to follow for the season.

Haydock 4.40 – Hot Hanney hoping to back up York effort
HANNEY GIRL is another horse I have been following for a while now as she has always struck me as a fast filly who could scale the handicap ranks in time.
She returned this season with a promising effort at Thirsk, showing up well before tiring late which teed her up nicely for a tilt at a good York handicap last week.
She again ran well there finishing a close fifth, perhaps unsuited to track position and having to do the donkey work for that side of the field.
I think it’s a race that will work out well in the next few weeks and with that in mind she looks like a good bet here.
She has the fitness edge over a few of her rivals here and I generally feel she is better than them anyway.
A bold show incoming hopefully.
