Sire De Grugy primed for Chepstow run

Sire De Grugy should run at Chepstow on Saturday as he continues to prepare for the defence of his Queen Mother Champion Chase crown.

Trainer Gary Moore has confirmed last year’s Cheltenham Festival winner is in good shape just three weeks before this year’s main event and, following a workout on Tuesday morning, is now set to run in the Rifles Handicap Chase at Chepstow this weekend.

The nine-year-old, ridden by owner Moore’s son, Jamie, will defend his title in the Queen Mother at Cheltenham on March 11, barring any late setbacks.

“He galloped this morning and everything went good,” said Moore snr. “He will school later in the week, probably on Thursday. We will run a few tests on him and if everything’s okay, I’ll speak to the owners, I’ll speak to Jamie (Moore) and we’ll take it from there.

“At the moment we’re definitely going (to Chepstow).”
