Ian Heitman hopes the new rules will make some jockeys better riders as he reviews the two-year-old action

The recent changes announced regarding the use of the whip will be introduced later this year giving jockeys plenty of time to get used to only using the whip in the backhand position. The threat of being disqualified for using the whip too many times and in the incorrect position should focus the jockey’s attention and hopefully there won’t be too many disqualifications.
