As we race towards another weekend you can see Andy Newton’s ITV Horse Racing tips on Saturday, with the action this week coming from Ascot, Haydock and Kempton Park

In total, there are NINE ITV races to take in on the ‘free-to-air’ channel across the three venues.

With the Sprint Cup at Haydock the big Group One feature of the weekend.

Andy Newton’s ITV Haydock Horse Racing Tips on Saturday 5th September 2026

 

 

13:25 – HAYDOCK – Betfair Backs Opinions Superior Mile Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m ITV

HANKELOW and THE LOST KING look the better value calls here over the two shorter in the betting – Dancing Gemini and Needle Match.

Yes, jockey William Buick (Dancing Gemini) has won the last two runnings and his ride will enjoy the ease in grade. But heads here 0-9 and a bit to prove for me.

Of the picks though. The former represents last year’s winning owners and is taken to enjoy the step back in trip (1m). After finding 1m 1f and 1m 2 1/2f stretching him.

Backed up with a decent third in the French 2000 Guineas (watch below) over a mile on v.soft ground, so conditions will be okay too.

Then, The Lost King heads here in the form of his life after two wins at York. He’s up in grade here from handicaps to Group 3 level, so more needed, but deserves his chance.

The last win was an easy 2 1/2 length success in a decent handicap, with the fair yardstick Bullet Point back in second.

At around 8/1 he looks worth chancing, with the Balding yard also winning this in 2018.

13:55 – HAYDOCK – Betfair Celebrates Bow Echo Ascendant Stakes (Listed Race) Cl1 (2yo) 1m ITV

FIRST LAW looks to have an obvious chance here after a win on debut at Sandown.

He only got home by a head that day and the form has taken a few knocks since with the 2nd and 4th beaten.

But we can expect him to have learned a lot from that and the Charlie Appleby yard boast a cracking 43% SR with their 2yolds here.

William Buick rides and despite being little value, I’ll side with this Godolphin runner to lay the ‘law’ down again.

Salisbury third Rocket Boy looks his main danger based on the betting, But the value call over the pick could be RAFE’S DA MAN.

This Richard Hannon runner has a bit to find on the ratings, but seems to be going the right way after a nice win at Goodwood last time.

Before that he ran 4th to the promising Breacher at Salisbury and that horse advertised the form with a fair (but green) run last weekend at Sandown.

Oh, and the Hannon yard like this race – winning it four times in recent times.

14:30 – HAYDOCK – Best Odds On The Betfair Exchange Handicap (GBBPlus Race) Cl2 (3yo) 1m6f ITV

REEM RAK is the call to bounce back to winning ways here for the in-form Roger Varian yard.

This 3yold filly powered home to win by 16 lengths at Doncaster two runs ago and was only a neck and a nose back in third last time at HQ.

She gets in here off the same mark as last time (80) and I think the long Haydock straight will be to her liking here. She also gets in with just 8st 7lbs, which will help over this 1m6f trip.

Of the rest, Galilean Quality is noted after a good second at York last time, but is up another 5lbs.

So the danger can be MYTHICAL BAY, who was 9th in the same race Galilean Quality ran in last time, but ran too free that day.

This Balding horse is also 5lbs better off with the second this time, so providing he can settle a bit better is taken to reverse that form.

15:05 – HAYDOCK – Betfair Exchange Old Borough Cup Handicap (GBBPlus Race) Cl2 (3yo+ 0-105) 1m6f ITV

STRESSFREE took the bronze in this race in 2025 and is the call to go two places better rated 5lbs lower.

Yes, this O’Meara horse has not been easy to catch right and heads here 0-12, but is back to his last winning mark (97).

He’s also got fair form here at Haydock 1-5-3 and comes here off a decent (running on) 6th in the Ebor at York (down 2lbs) (watch below).

Godolphin’s Aegean Prince, who was 2nd in a Listed race in France last time, will appeal to a lot now into a handicap for the first time. But is also back from 320-days.

The consistent Finalise is another to respect coming from the William Haggas yard, who have won three of the last six runnings.

As is Mountain Road, who rarely runs a bad race.

While Paddy The Squire (5th 2025) and Dancing In Paris (12th 2025) are others that have run in this race in the past.

15:40 – HAYDOCK – Betfair Sprint Cup Stakes (Group 1) Cl1 (3yo+) 6f ITV

MARVELMAN ran a blinder for much of the way last time, when 3rd in the City Of York Stakes (7f).

He led for much of the way there too, so the drop back in trip to 6f here looks a plus, as does the softer ground.

Having been headed by Notable Speech the last day, then a lot of horses would have faded away. But the fact he plugged on well for third (2 3/4 lengths) was encouraging.

This Andrew Balding runner also loves a big of dig underfoot and the 5th in that last race (Zavateri) franked the form to win at Goodwood last weekend.

I’ll take Marvelman to be the hero here.

Of the rest, last year’s winner Big Mojo will be looking to become the first back-to-back winner since Be Friendly (1967/68).

While we’ve also got last year’s runner-up Kind Of Blue, who is another that will like the ease in the ground.

QEII Jubilee Stakes Royal Ascot winner Almeraq is, of course, respected too – as is the in-form Coppull, who landed the Hungerford Stakes last time.

Andy Newton’s ITV Ascot Horse Racing Tips on Saturday 5th September, 2026

13:40 – ASCOT – Schweppes Handicap Cl2 (3yo+) 7f ITV

THUNDER CALL can ‘storm’ home here in a race that cases can be made for many.

Yes, the likes of Two Tribes, who I’ve been following all season, Addison Grey and Northern Express are respected – but this might be a race to not overcomplicate things.

This William Haggas entry went into many a notebook the last day after a fast-finishing 2nd here in the Shergar Cup Sprint.

He’s up 2lbs for that but has still only had six career runs and the way he ended his race last time suggests this step up to 7f will be a bit plus.

Cieren Fallon takes over in the saddle and is also 1-1- on this Pinatubo colt.

Of the rest, the already mentioned Northern Express is a proven CD winner here and is often never too far away in his races.

14:10 – ASCOT – tote Guarantee, Never Beaten By SP Handicap (Heritage Handicap) (GBBPlus Race) Cl2 (3yo) 1m4f ITV

ANCESTOR is chanced here over the most likely winner Heyzoom.

The former was last seen running 4th in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot in June and the form of that race has been franked many times since.

This Owen Burrows horse has been gelded since too and Saffie Osborne, who rode the last day, keeps the ride.

There’s a lot to like is his price as the likely 6/4 favourite.

Therefore, Ancestor is the e/w play here for the William Haggas yard, who could eke out more from this lightly-raced Sea The Stars gelding.

He heads here having won his last two and is into a handicap for the first time today.

While the form of this Yarmouth win two starts back has been franked since with the 2nd (Waterford Castle), 3rd (Kokbastau) and 5th (Hollywell Stream) all winning.

Cieren Fallon rides too and the final plus is the top record the Haggas yard have in this race – winning FOUR of the last five.

Of the rest, Shergar Cup winner Archers Bay can’t be discounted either after that easy 3 1/4 length win (up 7lbs).

Andy Newton’s ITV Kempton Horse Racing Tips on Saturday 5th September, 2026

14:20 – KEMPTON (AW) POLYTRACK – William Hill London Mile Series Final Handicap (Series Final – Qualified Horses Only) Cl2 (3yo+) 1m ITV

EXPOSURE is chanced e/w in a very open race with a lot of chances.

Yes, this Gosden runner has a bit to prove after being a beaten favourite the last day here.

But had to lump 10-2 there and gets in here with just 8-13.

Before that he was 3rd to another runner Nikovo at HQ but is now 8lbs better off with that horse.

The Gosden’s also boast a decent 24% SR with their older horses here at Kempton.

Of the rest, recent CD winners Warrior Mode, Cavolo Nero and Victory Ace are all proven performers here and if coping with their rises in the handicap have to be respected.

14:50 – KEMPTON (AW) POLYTRACK – William Hill September Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m4f ITV

WARRANT HOLDER is chanced as a bit of value here over the talking horses in the race. Like Constitution Hill and Gethin.

Yes, there will probably be no bigger cheer on the day if Constitution Hill wins, but I’m just not convinced he’s beaten much on his two flat wins.

Of course, he won easily both times, but the most recent win here at Kempton has seen the runner-up (2 lengths) well beaten since.

Gethin is the top-rated and the most likely winner being 1-1 on the AW (Kempton) too. With those against him maybe pointing to the trip being an unknown.

That could also apply to Godolphin’s Tornado Alert, who is a G1 winner. However, his wins have also all been over shorter.

Pride Of Arras is on the AW for the first time, but we know this York specialist will stay.

So, with all this in mind, a chance is taken on the Royal runner Warrant Holder. Who represents the Gosden yard that have a top record in this race (5/11).

Yes, he was poor in the John Smith’s Cup last time but before that over 1m4f ran a close second in the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes at Royal Ascot.

That form looks okay too, with the 6tth Hopewell Rock winning since and then running a fine 2nd in the Ebor.

He’s also 2-3 on the AW and has hit the first three in 7 of his 8 career starts – with 2 months to get over that poor York run and coming from the powerful Gosden yard.

He could just be a tad over-priced if you can shop around for 3 or 4 places.
