Belgium, let’s face it, isn’t renowned for its thoroughbred heritage. But for one day a year, in late August, the nation makes an exception. In the Flemish town of Waregem, I’m watching the Prijs Baron Casier behind white wooden posts, at the far end of a right-handed steeplechase course.
