I have plenty of respect for Perfect Power in the Richmond stakes today at 2.25 as he will love the step up to 6f and he was tipped in this column when he won at Ascot. However, the prospect of softer conditions is an unknown and a small field, tactical race may not suit him. Therefore I think EBRO RIVER is the most logical bet in the race at 11/2. He will love the soft ground, has the form in the book and shouldn't be out of the places. When he has encountered soft ground, he has been dominant, much like his sire, and even when he has faced quicker conditions he has shown his versatility and performed well. Today could be his day in the sun – no pun intended.
Another soft ground sprinter to play each way today is ISLE OF LISMORE. Robert Cowell is a dab hand with sprinters and I think this lad has a bit more up his sleeve yet. His form on soft/heavy ground will be key to his chance today as a lot of his rivals will not handle it and he will be better suited to the track than he was at Windsor last time. Oisin Murphy is booked to ride and I am hopeful of a good showing.
