McLoughlin dreaming of Aintree chance
Trainer Dermot McLoughlin says Freewheelin Dylan will head to Aintree in 2022 after his success at Fairyhouse.
The nine-year-old produced a career-best display to win the BoyleSports Irish Grand National, with punters enjoying odds of 150/1.
McLoughlin, who is based in County Meath, is now planning to work back from the 2022 Randox Grand National, with connections eyeing the double.
McLoughlin has finished third in the Grand National in the past, with Vics Canvas finishing third to Rule The World in 2016.
Despite his team’s success, McLoughlin says everyone in his camp are back to work, and they are now aiming to repeat their success, but this time at Aintree.
He told reporters: “The horse is grand, not a bother on him.
“We’ll be over for the Grand National next year, and we’ll work back from there. We might run again this season, maybe at Punchestown. He picked up ?216,000 yesterday, so he doesn’t have to go too far. We’ll see how he is.”
