This season threatens to be a vitally important one for Pointing. Field sizes have been dropping worryingly over the past few years, another significant fall would make it difficult to sustain a fixture list 179 meetings deep.
A fortnight before the show hit the road a half dozen of us Point followers had a bit of a forum at Fontwell. The others thought I was being overly pessimistic in my prediction that the number of qualified horses would decline by more than 12%. I do pray they are right...
