Friday – Blink and you’ll miss him

York 1.30 – La Trinidad to spice it up

This is a race full of horses who don’t win as often as they really should, and I have a vision where five of these frustrating sorts hit the front in a line a furlong out and all pull themselves up.

The one who I think is most likely to give his true running at a decent price is LA TRINIDAD, who has been performing better than what his form figures suggest.

He has stuck on from the back of the field on a few occasions this term, suggesting he is in good heart, and a return to his favourite track, York, might just spur him on to get his head back in front.

He has plenty of form here, including this season, so if he can put himself in a good position about 2f out, I would be hopeful he can land the spoils.

York 4.25 – Blinky to build on Southwell near miss

BLINKY got caught late on at Southwell last time out, which caused heartbreak for his backers, including myself, who were on at tasty prices.

It did, however, reaffirm his progressive consistent profile which he has formed himself this season.

His early-season form looked solid, and the fact he has returned after a mid-season break in similar form would give you plenty of hope that he can run another good race here.

The ratling quick ground through the Summer wouldn’t have been his gig at all, so connections have been wise to freshen him up for a busy Autumn/Winter, and they could get rewarded with a big run here today.

Saturday – The Ship is about to set sail

Chepstow 3.20 – Ship could take home Silver Treasure

I don’t like nailing my colours to the mast on any jumps horse at this time of year, but given the record Philip Hobbs has at this meeting down the years, I’d be fairly confident he has FRENCH SHIP plenty fit enough to go close in the Silver Trophy.

A smart novice last term who never got the chance to prove himself at the Spring festivals returns this Autumn off a mark of 128, which on the face of it looks lenient.

I personally don’t think this is the strongest Silver Trophy, and an unexposed horse like the selection could easily improve past some of these.

If you are a stats kind of punter, then you will love this selection here as he ticks the majority of the boxes, including having won over course and distance already.

He is currently the 5/1 favourite, but I do think he has plenty of mileage in his mark and therefore a worthy favourite and as confident a bet as I can have over the sticks in October.

Newmarket 3.40 – Ndaawi to relish quick surface

The Cesarewitch, like the Silver Trophy, doesn’t look the strongest of renewals this year, and the unseasonal quick ground we have at present might just catch a few of the ‘plot jobs’ out.

I include Dawn Rising in that, who catches the eye with Oisin Murphy booked, but all his good form recently has come on a softer surface, so I have to overlook my initial eye catcher.

He would also have to concede plenty of weight to an improving horse like NDAAWI, who looks set to make amends for last year’s disappointment when he was well fancied.

Second at the Cheltenham festival and a winner of the Galway Hurdle since suggests he is indeed improving, over hurdles at least, but is open to plenty more improvement now on a quicker surface on the level.

A well-fancied favourite last time out at Chester could only muster 4th despite when turning into the straight in front, although the softer conditions might not have played to his strengths there.

Cieren Fallon keeps the partnership intact, which I think could be important, and he looks a solid each-way bet at 20/1 when you consider he went off 7/1 for this race last year.
