Ben Morgan’s Ebor Day 1 tips – Trefor to Terrorise the Knavesmire

Our resident tipster Ben Morgan selects his best for day one of the

York 1.50 – Hills’ improving sprinter to take another step forward

I’ve ‘ummed’ and ‘ahhhhd’ over this race for a couple of days, but have eventually fell down on TREFOR for the team.

A prominent pace angle from a low draw is what you need, and he just about ticks those boxes. There is plenty of pace on here, and I anticipate a horse who is likely to sit just off the leaders, like Trefor, to benefit late on.

The fact that this horse stays 6f is another positive, and his recent form suggests he should be more than capable of being in the shake-up here.

He hit the front way too soon last time in a race where it paid to come from way off the pace, so if Kieran Shoemark can keep him covered for as long as possible, he should prove too strong late on.

York 4.10 – Terrorise to be feared off bottom weight

There are some quality staying handicappers in this race who have proven track records.

How many of them have a few pound in hand on the handicapper remains to be seen but one ‘unproven’ horse who could have a few pound in hand is TERRORISE.

Brian Ellison’s 4-year-old tried 2 miles for the first time last time out here at and could hardly have been more impressive.

As the cameras changed at the start of the home straight, he was making serious ground over his rivals who seemed to be standing still.

He continued to power up the straight, winning by 4 lengths in the end, and although that form is not to the level he finds himself at here, he couldn’t have done any more.

Off a featherweight, I think he could have plenty more to offer, considering only 7lb.
